Default Car lift in home garage?

Looking to install a lift in my garage, the only problem I see right now is how to get around the traditional type garage door that has the opener in the middle of the garage.

I do not know if there was a different style where the opener is on the side of the garage or a roll up style that will work.

I have the height in the garage but not the depth to get far enough into the garage where the current opener will work with a lift in there.

Thanks,

If you want to replace the opener...lift master makes a great side opener...

I had a Atlas bp9k in my last garage. Worked great. It was deep enough that I didn't have to mess with the doors though.

You can also retrack your current setup so the door opens all the way to ceiling height instead of like 5 feet suspended down. That may give you enough height depending on your setup

Go with a shaft mounted opener that mounts on your wall next to the garage door like this one and have nothing overhead!

Aren't the tracks still in the way of a lift even with a side mount motor setup?

Not really but everything depends on how much ceiling height you have.

There is a lot of good info and some good pics in here:

It also depends on what type of lift you purchase. A mid rise scissors lift will pretty much allow you to put a lift in any garage. It will get the car 4 ft off the ground which is high enough to ride under it on a small seat. Max Jax lift is another way around obstructions.

Stinger Lift sold by Corvette Museum, they're made in the USA. If your a member of the Museum you get a discount. My ceiling is 9ft 2in and still have room.

I had a 16 foot garage ceiling in the Az house. Had a commercial Liftmaster opener and track that canted the door in a couple of degrees and lifted it straight up. You can see the near vertical track and spring behind the Corvette.

Do this, keep your current opener. Garage door company charged me like $500 to move the tracks up and relocate the opener. BTW: 10'3" ceiling.

I am jealous...I just spent an awful long time trying to lift my car enough to crawl my fat *** underneath.

Dude...don't be jealous...keep in mind that being older has it's rewards.

When I was younger I paid my dues changing clutches with a 914 on jack stands in my driveway (of my mobile home) with the trannie sitting on my chest, so I could drive it to work the next day.

getting older has many downsides...but a lot more upsides.

I actually did get a quote for doing this for $600. Thought it was high and never went through with it.

I did this to my 2 car garage.... installed lift on left side and right by the rail. When the car comes up on the lift you miss the rail. I also moved my garage door opener to the right side off the door as the above picture and out of the way.

these work great. I put one in and high lifted the garage door so there is room for my lift.

You might be able to get away without changing the rails as I did by taking a few measurements.

My garage door opens only to a height to get a car out when the lift is up.
The height it opens allows either car to get out.

When the lift is lowered then the garage door opens all the way.
