Include me on your list:

2008 - stock with approximately 32,000 miles. Most of the guides were out of spec. Katech did the head repair along with their Stage One. Here's a link that includes a spec sheet on the guide wear

The purpose is to get a grasp of how many guide wear test results are coming back with out of spec guides and from which years.

If you have inspected your guides and they have come back out of spec based on the 0.0037” service limit (that means you have at least one guide measuring 0.0037” or more), please reply with the year of your Z06, any mods and the miles at inspection. You can also attach a spec sheet of the measurements if you have one and cite who did the inspection. Hopefully we can use this data to get a better idea of the percentage of problems out there.

If you are looking to find a shop that can perform a wiggle test on your heads, see the list of Vendors below or check the Crowdsourced Interactive Map of Wiggle Testers

This is not a thread to debate the valve drop issues, or how to fix it. This is not a thread for cars who have in spec guides. This is not a thread for drama. Please try to keep it as clean as possible and on topic.

The results will be grouped by year and then by member name. There is now a separate list to record any out of spec bronze guide heads. Many of the members on this list originally posted in THIS THREAD.

You have to be the most obtuse person I've seen here- or you're a straight up troll. You remind me of a guy who used to post in the C3 section. I don't think most of us ever knew for sure if he was really that stupid or if he was just a troll. It didn't matter- the mods finally got tired of his idiocy and banned him.

For you rational guys out there, I suggest you ignore this guy rather than engage in a useless battle that could get a useful thread locked. He goes onto my Ignore List as of now.

BAND THIS !!! I have a right to state on any subject the way i feel again the numbers you have given have not stated if they where stock ls7 motors or tracked or outer mile ran or just somebody that just has done bad things to these motors, so until these numbers are well higher then what your short list has stated i still stand behind GM AND AGAIN THESE ARE NOT RACE CARS THEY WHERE NEVER SOLD TO BE RACE CARS.

Just because you dive it like an old lady and cant drive it like the way it was meant to be driven doesnt mean it's not a race car man.

Well, then you should keep your car stock...why look into mod'ing it, if you know in your heart of hearts, that's what causes engine failure?

I certainly appreciate and agree with what you guys have to say. While I find his rant pretty humorous, I'd rather not have to see all of his poor spelling, lack of proper punctuation, and general incoherence. Using my special decoder to translate, I think he's a bit upset. Oooops. Whatever the case, if possible, could you guys try not to quote him? That way I won't have to suffer through his semi-literate posts.

Definitely not how I spell it. Thanks bud...if you can't maintain context without quoting please don't worry about it. I can always try not to look....pretty hard to do sometimes when the amusement factor is so rich.

Default out of spec guide wear

2008 Z06, 9,620 miles, street driven, never on track, stock. Wiggle test done by American Heritage Performance.Valves were way out of spec per Kohle at AHP. Replaced heads with their Package 4, moldstar valve guides, Ferrea ss exhaust valves and street port. Engine kept stock. Heads were installed by Abel Chevrolet in Rio Vista, California. Excellent service and workmanship . Kohle at AHP was very helpful and easy to work with as was Donnell and Rich at Abel Chevrolet. Glad I had this done.

Wow, I forgot all about this thread, good to see it's still going. I guess I need to post on it for a second time:

Warranty replacement heads failed the wiggle test and confirmed worn out by bore gauge measurements after approx. 15k mi. Similar mileage as the OE heads. This time I installed AHP rebuilt heads w/ moldstar 90 guides etc. etc. Hopefully these will last longer but I'll still check them after another 15K. to make sure.

Maybe we need start an out of spec guide registry for warranty replacements and other "fixed" heads that didn't stay fixed?

2007 Z06, 24,000 miles, street driven, never tracked , stock. Wiggle test done by AHP. Valves were out of specs according to Kohle. Replaced with Package #4, added BTR Dual springs with titanium retainers and machined valve locks. Also had heads ported by AHP.

Below are your wiggle test measurements. Please not these are your raw wiggle test measurements. Your actual mic and bore gauge measurements will be roughly half of what the wiggle test measurements are.

#1 Int .008"
#1 exh .006"
#3 int .0085"
#3 exh .005"
#5 int .0085"
#5 exh .010"
#7 int .009"
#7 exh .005"

#2 int .010"
#2 exh .011"
#4 int .010"
#4 exh .012"
#6 int .008"
#6 exh .017"
#8 int .007"
#8 exh .006"

Max GM spec is .0037" which would roughly be .0075" on the wiggle test. So basiclly if the wiggle test is over .0075" the guides are out of spec.

2013 427 w/4000 stock miles. Wiggle measurement were as follows;

#1 int: .010" #1exh: .009"
#2 int: .009" #2exh: .007"
#3 int: .012" #3exh: .008"
#4 int: .010" #4exh: .007"
#5 int: .010" #5exh: .008"
#6 int: .010" #6exh: .008"
#7 int: .010" #7exh: .008"
#8 int: .009" #8exh: .007"

A raw wiggle test of .009 or above will typically come back out of spec when measured with a dial bore and mic according to AHP. A raw wiggle of .008 and below will be in spec when measured with dial bore and mic.

Its interesting, but it falls right in line with what we've seen...earlier years are exhaust guides way out, and later years are intakes. Mine is an '09, so mid-production run...so both sides were f@#ked.

You can add my 2009 @ 26,871 miles, to the list.

It's stock and has a GMPP on it, so it's not tracked. I took it in for a cam/lifters failure at Champion Chevrolet in Reno.

Once the heads were removed, they checked the valves/guides and found them out of spec.

My GMPP approved all the work/parts needed. It's getting a new set of heads and valves, cam, lifters and all parts cleaned, inspected and replaced as needed.

Here's the thread on it. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-chirping.html

I don't know the measurements yet, as it's still being worked on. Hope to have more information late next week. I'll add anything further to the linked thread.
