Cam suggestions? Guys with milled heads?
I have an 06 z06 with a set of advanced induction ported & milled heads on it. They also have the btr .660 dual springs and hardened pushrods. I bought the car from a dealer, but contacted the owner that installed the heads before he traded it in. It still has the stock cam in it. I have a 500$ gift card to comp cams and would love to use it, but I don't know what I need. I contacted advanced inductions but they haven't got back with me yet. I also contacted vengeance racing about some of there camshafts, but they informed me that I need to know how much was milled off the heads before they recommend a cam, and they would probably have to do a custom grind due to ptv clearance. All I know is that the previous owner told me the heads were milled to achieve 11.9:1 compression. Anyone running these heads or that compression please chime in. I'd like to stick a cam In it without removing the heads, would also like to have a cam that will make good power without having to change the btr .660 springs. Thanks

You're not giving us enough info here...
How will you use the car?
What octane fuel is available to you?
How many miles on the springs?
What other mods have been done to the car?
Depending on use, you probably need to budget for a dual disk clutch too.
Street, track, drags or a little of both?

I would say call Carlos@Vette Air but he doesn't really use comp cams. He is the master at high compression ls7 builds though.

How will you use the car? Weekend cruising. Drag racing
What octane fuel is available to you? 93
How many miles on the springs?
5000
What other mods have been done to the car? CAI, tune, about to install 1-7/8 lg headers and xpipe. Coilovers
I'm planning to do a clutch , and an agressive cam is not gonna bother me. I don't want constant bucking but some drivability compromise is to be expected.
I've had other vettes , one with a tps torquer 2 cam and another with a 402 stroker with a Texas giant cam.

I'm more concerned with what I can put in there and not be worried about pistons hitting valves. I know how to remove heads and check clearance , but hoping to find someone on here that have had there heads milled by them, and find out whAt cam they are using.

You should be able to get how much they were milled based off 11.9:1. 11.5-11.6 is .030" so that sounds more like .045" off.

Thanks . I think I read in a search that .040 was 12.1:1. Either way that still doesn't tell me what cam I can run. I will call Carlos and see if he can make a suggestion. I don't have to go with comp cams. I can use that credit on something else.

If you must use a cam from Comp cams to take advantage of your $500GC. Then stick with a cam around the 110 to 112 LSA with no more than 2* to 3* of advance for your planned racing activities you mentioned. As far as duration, stick with something around the low to mid 240's on the intake and looow 250's on the exhaust - lifts can stay in the 640 to 650 range for both Int/Exh.
Note: I am not a cam/compression expert, but I did stay at the Norman Bates motel last night
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Carlos

I just copy and pasted this from another sites ember signature.
******WCCH Stage 2 CNC heads milled .040 Bronze guides, SS Exhaut valves
Cam is 247/255 112+4 .661”/.661” ******
After doing a lot of searches on milled heads I'm finding some pretty healthy cams installed at even .040 milled heads. It just puzzles me that vengeance said they wouldn't recommend me buying any of there of the shelf cams at my compression ratio.

He may have sold the cam because: going to the dealer to trade in the Z with a cam that nasty may scare them/the deal away.
I can't blame the dealership because they would have to find a specific buyer for a car with such cam...follow me?
BTW, we have guys with heads milled beyond 0.40 with huge cams with stock thickness gaskets.
From what I can tell, you should be able to run the Widow or Widow R cam with your set up.
Thanks,
Carlos

Correct. He didn't want to trade it in with that cam and sold it. I will probably go with something off the specs you gave me so I can retain the .660 springs . Thanks for the help. Awesome forum, awesome vendor!

WCCH milled .130 with Widow cam
NASTY N/A power.
The Widow is a hard cam to live with for day to day commuting but that is just MY opinion. Not recommended for a daily driver.

That would be a healthy cam. You could probably go down just a bit if you want a bit more driveability. I ran a 240/250 110 and it was pretty damn good with enough tuning.
