Default Whats wrong with the calls compstar stuff?

Sorry spellcheck got me, I meant callies

When people ask about building shortblocks for boost I have seen a few people recommend not going with the compstar stuff. Is it just that the limit is lower or is it not good even at lower power levels.

I was looking at shafiroff engines website and they have a short block for 6700 but it uses the compstar crank and rods. Is this a no go? How good would it be for a 150 or 200 shot or boost in the 800 range?

Fine for that level. Blowers are rough on cranks and cost difference is minor to the better stuff. I wouldn't skip out as replacing a motor is no fun.

Kinda what I figured. Is there light weight stuff that people are using to not lose much power n/a so it still runs good off the spray?

Stock. Just some decent pistons.

From what Callies has told me the CompStar stuff starts its life as a OEM crank before GM gets a hold of it then they do their work to it as far as polishing, oil holes.....

Callies parent company makes the OEM cranks...FYI.

That being said, like Ureal said it isn't going to do much better than the OEM crank. When you go to the Dragonslayer, and Magnum cranks, that is when you get into the better strength cranks.

I wouldn't give up the ti rods at that power level.

Just run 100 or 125 shot on the stock motor with dedicated fuel and some fail safes and be done with it.

That's what I had planned on but I hear so many differing opinions. The shop I use doesn't like to do any power adders to ls7's without doing at least forged pistons. And I figure if I'm gonna do that I may as well spend 7k instead of 4k and do a bulletproof shortblock for that power level. They will give me 3k for my shortblock which covers the cost of labor to do swap it all over and fluids and all. Tough decision. I'd hate to hurt the stock shortblock and then lose out on 3 grand. But I may be wasting money doing a shortblock in the first place. Some shops are all about putting power adders on the ls7. That was my original plan. Stand alone 100 shot on stock stuff. But I know I will want more.

One of the well know EB's in my area has a Z06 client that has been running up to 200 shot on stock internals for years without any issues. He said that this guy beats the **** out of his car and his Nitrous setup was without stand alone fuel. I think that you can run up to 125 or 150 pretty safely if you set it up right.

It depends. I certainly wouldn't pull from the rail on an LS7 already putting down 600whp but if its at 480whp then you could.
