Default Do people still have problems with Pilot Super Sport tires on our cars?

Are there still issues with Pilot Super Sports being "wobbly" at high speeds? I know there has been numerous forum members that have had problems with these tires and there was no real resolution. Bad batch of tires?

I was going to go with Bridgestone Potenza RE11s, but fronts are on backorder so I may have to go with SS.

I've had my MPSS for 1 year now with about 3k miles on them. 9/15 build date, installed on 10/15. No problems yet at speeds of 100-140+ mph.

I had that problem, had them checked for balance, and had the alignment re-done to eliminate those possibilities. When the problem persisted I contacted Michelin Customer Service to open a claim. The rep was really and was a big time performance car guy. I printed out the forum posts on the topic and made an appointment at Americas Tire to have them checked for tread depth. They then called Michelin with my claim info and I got a screaming deal on an all new set of 4 last spring- problem solved.

I'd have to dig out the paperwork but I think it was about 1/3 normal price after using the first set for 2-3 years and having a lot of tread left. My understanding is that there was a window of manufacturing dates during which this could occur and that goes a ways back. New ones should not have that problem. I've tracked the car with my new set and they were awesome. I wouldn't hesitate at this point if I were you. The grip is excellent for a street tire.

I'm on my 2nd set and this set has ~ 90 miles at 150 MPH with no wobble. My first set did not have wobble but took three tried before they were balanced well.

M knows they had some of the PSS that had a prpblem. I believe all those on this forum that went back to the seller/Michelin got them replaced as manufacturing defect.

I would have no problem buying anothe set of PSS if they are still the best street tire when thise set wears out or date codes out for the events I do.

I just replaced my death wobble MPSS's with a new set of MPSS's with no regret. The first set were on it when I bought the car with 20,000 miles on it so I did not try to get any help from Michelin. Still put 25,000 miles on them. Replaced the shocks with a set of DRM Bilsteins also while I was at it. Went for a test drive up to 160 mph with no more wobble.

I say get you another set, seem to be the best tire for street performance. And since you would be the original buyer you would get some help from Michelin if you have a problem.

Awesome, thanks guys. I was a little hesitant to go with the SS tires because of all the issues, but it seems like Michelin has taken care of it. It was either going to be SS or RE11s and the RE11 fronts are on national back order.

Must have been a bad batch. Mine were in that as well and i'm pretty sure every time someone called Michelin about it it was the first they ever heard of it .

Anyway, they replaced under their warranty program and I haven't heard of anyone with that issue in a few months now.

Default MPSS Tires

Mine OEM sized MPSS tires have about 9000 miles on them over the course of 4 years. They have been up to 140 - 150 mph on a closed course abot 10 times - no wobble, no rebalance either.

Default Death Wobble on Michelin PSS tires

My car is an 08 model Z06 with Michelin PSS tires in OEM sizes. Last month at an HPDE my car exhibited the classic Death Wobble at 130-140 mph and full throttle in 4th gear. Vibration was so violent that the traction +yaw control nannies would intervene and cut power in the normal driving mode. I thought that the vibration was the result of a rough track at the time, and I did not remember the posts on CF about Death Wobble. Friday, I ran the car no track at the same speeds again. This time I was in "Competition Mode", so the nannies did not interfere. Again, the vibration was so violent that I was concerned that the car would spin.

My tires were manufactured by Michelin in May and November 2012, so they are definitely past their prime, but this Death Wobble should not happen. The tires have about 10k miles on them and 60% of the tread currently remains. I will be reporting this to Michelin tomorrow.

I had the wobble on my last set of MPSS.

Michelin customer service was great and wanted me to visit a shop for analysis to try and get some of the value back. That set was already at the end of tread life, so I bought a new set anyway.

No issues at all with the new set. Awesome tires, and I'm glad they fixed the problem.

Default Death Wobble on Michelin PSS tires

I would have said the same thing until last Friday. Now I know that would not have been fact. So the question I have is whether Michelin has solved this problem now.

Date code on your tires? DOT then a 4-digit code, first two week of the year 2nd two are the last two digets of the year built ie 1712 would be the 17th week of 2012 (late April early May)

Default Death Wobble on Michelin PSS tires

3812 Fronts, 2312 Rears. It definitely was giving me a wild ride when going through 130 - 140 mph at HDPEs on 3/25 and on 4/21/17 at TWS. I was able to push through it above 140, but it was so violent that it triggered the traction control nannies. I did not notice it at all 10 months ago at COTA at any speed. I'm calling Michelin today.

I had mine replaced by Michelin last spring and the problem is gone with the new tires.. The tires they replaced also had 10k miles and they took very good care of me!! Go to your Michelin dealer and have them start a claim i'm sure they will take care of you.

The bad ones I had didn't do it at first either. I'm not sure what changed but when they went bad they were horribly scary. Michelin is aware of this problem and they were very good about making it right to me.

Default Death Wobble

I called Michelin today and they told me to take my car back to the tire dealer, Discount Tire. I did that and gave the manager a detailed account of my concern. He removed all 4 wheels/tires from my car and rebalanced them and called it good. I refused to accept this and told him that the tires were unsafe for use up to the speed that Michelin certifies them for and I believe the tires should be replaced with good ones.

The Discount Tire manager offered to call Michelin about it but told me he doubted they would replace the tires. I told him that my minimum expectation would be for Michelin to replace them with good ones under the treadlife guarantee, with me making up the difference, as it is to no one's advantage for Michelin customers to be driving arund on defective tires.

I am waiting to hear back from the Discount Tire dealer on this.

This is likely what will happen. Michelin was great when I had this happen. They called Discount Tire for me with me still on the call and set everything up.

mid to late 2012 seems to be the problem time frame. I had late 2011 and early 2012 and then 2016s and had no problems. It may take a while for Dt to work thru M but you should end up satisfied.
