Help me choose 19" drag radials dedicated for 1/2 mile and 1/4 mile events
I am going to use my 19/18 OEM Spyders as a dedicated track setup. I will use these wheels/tires mostly in 1/2 mile events but I will also use them in a few 1/4 mile events as well.
Which tires should I consider?

Only 19" DRs made that fit OEM z06 wheels are nt05R, so pretty easy choice.
R888s are suppose to be out soon, but they are not drag radials. No other DR fits, so NT05R or pick a non-drag radial.

Not that fits the stock 19x12 rim properly. They are 305s, for a thiner wheel.
My bad, they do now make a 19" 325 ET street SS which is new. So you have a 345 NT05R or 325 ET street SS. I'm not a fan of the Street SS.

I have the MT ET SS 325/30-19s and ran them at the NFZ 1/2 mile roll races this past weekend. Temps were 50-60*. My car is 602/489 rwhp/tq with Bilstein shocks. I did no standing starts so did not hit it hard. My runs were ~40 MPH roll at the start. The car hooked up solid with either a 1st or 2nd gear start and hooked on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Traps were mostly 163-4 with the first one 166.8, tach at about 7K at the traps. Tire pressure was ~ 30 PSI, Traction Control off. The car was moving around some in 4th gear but I don't know if that was the tires or the runway paving or light side winds.
I drove them about 150 miles each way to the event. Driving down the day before was in light rain on 65-70 MPH roads and they were OK. That was their first use.

Once mounted I see they offer no rim protection at all but I will be using these for 1/2 mile and 1/4 mile only. I do have a concern about the 1.5" difference in height from the front to rear and having ABS controller issues. My race is Jan 22nd, so I can update the results at that time.

Omega Motorsport put on the 1/2 mile No-Fly Zone event I did this past Saturday and drag radials were allowed.

Depends on the event. I know you can't run them in the Texas mile. Some 1/2 mile events will allow them do to mostly slower trap speeds.

I am leaning toward the Nitto NT05R and I am wondering if it would be best to go with the 305/19 or 345/19 for the rears.

345's. I put the 305's on my spyders and they just don't look right. The rim is at the maximum recommended width for the 305's. Wish they had a 345 available in the MT ET Street SS.

I am bumping this thread back to the top wondering if it is even necessary to run drag radials in a 1/2 mile event. I am debating if it is even worth it if I can achieve the same speed with street tires vs drag radials. Any real world results.

Can you spin the street tires from a 2nd gear roll ? If the answer is yes, drag radials will be a very useful in achieving max velocity...even in a 1/2 mile race.
