Tune scheduled for a week from this friday 4/21. My tuner is slammed so thats about the soonest he can get me in. Drove the car around with the NW102 last night. Drives pretty good, but I did notice a bit of a hanging idle. I assume this can all be corrected with a tune.

Just lower the base idle air flow.

Anyone with a modded car should have HP tuners. You could fix the hanging idle/etc in <5 minutes.

Could be RAF (running air flow). Could also be cracker or follower. RAF is undoubtedly out of whack, so I'd start there like Unreal mentioned. Idling is the most difficult thing to master and is easily affected by ambient temps. I'm not sure I agree everyone should be poking around in the ECU, but at least they do have the opportunity to fix things on their own schedule.

I plan to buy HP tuners later this summer and start messing around. For now, I do not have any experience tuning and am not wanting to mess with my $15k LS7. I will get a good tune from a competent tuner, and slowly learn from their tune and make adjustments as necessary.

One of the great things, you aren't going to blow up or mess anything up changing idle. Great place to start.

Mine idled semi rough as well after my recent changes. Kept searching at idle. Tune fixed it up quick. I will probably end up buying HP Tuners as well. Agree that it is a good tool to have for our cars.

Anyone have any opinions on retorquing or checking torque on the head bolts after these few heat cycles? Not necessary, or should I?

Had to cancel my tune yesterday. Pouring rain and 40 degree temps were less than ideal for hoosier drag slicks or even loading the car on a uhaul trailer. Had a wake to attend later in the day and decided it wasnt worth the stress. Rescheduled for Friday may 5th, soonest my tuner could get me in Been driving the car around here and there, no issues so far.

Question on ethanol, for my setup, at approximately what ethanol content am I getting the maximum benefit of E85? E30? E50? E65? Anyone have any data on this? Curious on other 12:1+ static setups and what people have noticed. Just wondering for this summer when I want to blend e85 and 93

I was looking forward to seeing you post your dyno!!! I was wondering if you would postpone it because of the crappy weather. I would have also....you don't drive it in this weather, why would you tune it in it...

I'd say at E35-40 is the sweet spot. I had extensively logged my car with everything from E15 up to E67. And below E25 was just like 93 pump gas. And above E50, I had little if any gains. I had dynoed it as well, and the spread between E11 - E67 was worth 10/20 rwp and trq respectively.

Well to put it simply the more alcohol content the better , why do you think people are picking up 12-15rwhp with FTW fuel OVER pump e85 , 100% ethanol and more oxygenated , and yes hp gains are going to be minimal from say e65 to e70 or e75 but I would call any number a sweet spot because even if it's minimal you'll still pick up hp and tq as the ethanol content goes up , and I def wouldn't mix pump gas and e85 unless it was just to cruise the car or in a pinch where you need to get the car home from somewhere , that's obviously my opinion , all I'm saying is I would want the cooling effects and horsepower and tq increase from the e85 as often as I could

Thats the beauty of the flex fuel sensor. Timing tables are adjusted based on ethanol content detected. Should have no problems mixing fuels, although I plan to run e85 all the time unless I am on a longer road trip.

Plan to buff and seal the paint this week, Retorque the MSD intake manifold and may even do a compression test for ***** and giggles. Just want to be sure I wont have any mechanical issues on the dyno. Don't want to have to reschedule again.

Yes the flex fuel sensor makes it possible but it's not optimal vs . E85 full time , I'm just agreeing with what your saying basically.

Compression test shows 215-225PSI on all cylinders. Retorqed the MSD again and I should be ready for friday. Rain in the forecast again but I am not going to wait another two weeks. Will trailer it or drive up the night before. Should have dyno numbers on friday!

Dave Steck is sort of the master ethanol tuner. Now this part I'm going off memory but I believe he told me that my timing is maxed out when I reach 67% ethanol. Dave said something like "cause that's just the most you can advance the timing on these engines". I gather that means I had no detonation issues or anything but due to rod length and other factors I don't understand, that was max allowable timing advance for any kind of fuel.

So going off that bit of info, knowing that I'm getting max hp anytime I get over 67% ethanol, but knowing how much the mpg on E85 stinks, I do my best to maintain my ethanol gauge in the 65-75% range by dropping in some super unleaded from time to time.

Good luck!

nice, do you have an aeroforce interceptor or similar gauge to display Ethanol content?
