Thinking about making the plunge...HELP!
So I haven't made my purchase yet but I've been dancin around this car for about a month. It's a 2008 C6 ZO6. Has about 64k mikes. Really good shape. Decently priced too.
Anyways I'm coming here first to get your inputs. I won't want to keep it stock. Simple bolt ons will be a must. I've heard issues about the LS7 which scares me.
Also I'd be making a huge transition. I currently drive a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins. Lifted 8" on 38s. Dumped soooo much money into this truck. I'd be trading it in on this Corvette.
I miss going fast. I miss cruising the back roads. It's hard to do that in a 4ton tank. My city all knows my truck. Idk I've had it for 2 years and bought it stock so letting it go is hard. I do have another little Toyota truck that's setup pretty well. So I wouldn't be totally truckless.
but I cannot stop thinking about this Corvette. I drive by the lot every day to see if it's still there. I've been watching YouTube videos and playing with the Corvette on Forza hahaha
basically I'm here for advise. Maybe a little push. How many of you went from a diesel to a Vette? Is a ZO6 a good choice. This would be my first V8 RWD car. I've had quick cars before but all Turbo 4cyl. I can drive so that's not an issue. I'm also not stranger under the hood.
Any input would be great!! Thanks in advance!

Other than that just shift about a 1000 rpm before red line unless you got money on the line.

Well you are comparing apples and tangerines. There is no proper comparison that can be made between a diesel 3500 truck and an LS7 equipped Corvette. It is an entirely different driving experience. The Vette is a sports car. A street legal race car. It is extremely fast, sits low to the ground, has a 6 speed manual gear box and requires your full attention at all times.
Some of the issues you will face with the Vette are as follows:
- The heads must be checked and likely fixed. Budget $2000-$4000 depending on how handy you are with a wrench and what else you choose to do.
- Tires for our cars are not cheap. $1000-$1500 depending on what you choose
- Other routine maintenance (oil, fluids, brakes etc)
If you are prepared to properly maintain the car and address any issues that may arise, then a C6 Z06 is a fantastic car that will bring you years and years of joy. The LS7 is a monster. A high revving, angry motor that wants to be driven hard. The car itself is beautiful and GM did a bang up job on it. There are few other American made cars as well sorted and enjoyable. Do your homework on what you are buying and build into your budget the known issues with these cars. Heads/tires are the two biggies.

I had a highly modified STi (450 whp) then went the responsible route and sold it to purchase a volt. After 4 years I was given a company car and I needed something fun again. So I purchased an 08 z06 last month and boy is it a blast to drive. Leagues beyond the capabilities of my STi. I purchased one with the heads addressed, big cam and full bolt ons installed (627whp). NA power is so much more fun the turbo boost. It still surprises me every time I get on it. I have no doubts you will not regret getting rid of the truck.

i went from a 06 cummins @ ~700hp to my z06. The z06 is way way more powerful. just as easy to work on/hop up as the cummins. where the cummins is screaming on the highway doing 80 the vette is bogging. that's a lot different. and where the cummins is quick from 40-100, the vette is just getting started at 100

Thanks for all the help and stories. I drove by the lot tonight after about a week of not seeing it...and it's still there. I've driven it and checked it all out. Everything seems good. Dealership put a clutch in it. It also came from Texas and ended up here in Southern Oregon.
I might go down tomorrow and see if they will work something out with me. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. I've never had this much stress over making a purchase. Usually I just trade it in and take home my new car or truck.
I'll keep everyone updated!
