Default Do I need a new radiator?

Looking for advise on my H/C 441 LS7 making 556 rwhp. With this increase of power I noticed it makes more heat. With this being said, I feel I have to add more coolant more frequently. I live in Texas and do drive in stop and go traffic, should I upgrade the radiator? Also does anyone else have this issue?

Why do you need to add coolant frequently? Are you overheating? Is your fan working correctly?

You should never have to add coolant frequently. If you are eating coolant, something is wrong.

Does the car overheat or run hot on freeway or just idle/stoplight? If it is going 60+ mph a radiator will help. If it is <10 mph, you need more fan.

Either way, coolant should be stable and not moving.

Only time it goes past 220 is after driving in stop and go traffic recently. The average temperature 180 degrees on the highway.

I checked to see if the fan is on and it is. I am going to replace the water pump maybe it has a leak I am unaware of and just not working properly.

You need more fan then, not more radiator.

Either way, figure out why coolant is disappearing.

I also live in Texas. My car makes 525 rwhp, and I have not added coolant ever. I think you might have a leak somewhere.

Look at the pump in this picture. See the little hole between the aluminum webs. You can actually see the shaft through that hole. That is where you should see signs of a leak when the water pump shaft seal is leaking

Could be as simple as a cracked/leaking recovery/expansion tank. Coolant leaking on a hot motor has a distinct burning smell...do you smell anything odd when your car is hot?

Look up at the very top of the radiator, from underneath the car. These cars sit so low, that debris collects in front of the radiator causing them to run hot. Its kind of difficult to do, easier if you have access to a lift.

Thanks everyone for the advise finally figured it out the surge tank aka radiator cap was not holding pressure.

Well I ended up changing the radiator to a 2 row and does not have the integrated oil cooler, new water pump, new 160 degree thermostat and new oil cooler.

I also went with the Water Wetter solution and the car has been running at a good temperature in stop and go traffic. Running about 6 degrees cooler then what it was before it started getting hot.
