Heads and Cam C6Z oil question
Hello everyone, please don't flame me too bad for this question. Here goes.
I bought a 2008 C6Z that has heads/cam/longtubes and when speaking with a local big name LS tuner, they said i should only run Valvoline 10w40 CONVENTIONAL oil in the car or i could risk lifter failure (they did the cam and tune).
However when speaking with the previous owner, he said he started out running what the tuner told him but then switched to Mobil 1 5w20 Synthetic.
I don't want any issues so i'd really like some advice on what to run.
Thanks!

M1 0W-40, Amsoil Z-rod 10W30 or other quality synthetics will work fine. If you don't track your car or the oil doesn't get above 260*, then M1 5W-30 would be OK, but not my first choice over the others listed above. I think the M1 5W-30 high mileage oil has more ZDDP than the Dexos M1 5W-30.

Joe Gibbs LS. If you want to catch up on oil, google, Bob is the oil guy, been in the industry for a long time, independent studies, his own forum etc etc. My builder suggested Gibbs and it is near the top of Bob's testing.

Use a good quality synthetic oil, and a good filter. Don't go heavier than 40 weight, unless the car is a dedicated road/track car and you allow the oil to reach temp prior to hammering on it. Don't use 20 weight. Use either 30 or 40 weight, multi-viscosity.
All you need to do is search "which oil" on this site to find hundreds of threads, same tone, same BS, and even the same guys preached that zinc will save the world.... Everyone has a favorite.

Please read this thread, especially post #1. Bottom line, stick with the 5W-30. (I have full cam and all the bolt-on's and I never once thought about switching oils.)

Besides break in, I've run Zrod 10-30 and currently have m1 0-40 in the car because I needed oil quick and that is what walmart had.
Any good synthetic should work. Amsoil, Redline, Brad Penn, Gibbs, etc etc.
Just picked up more zrod yesterday, to get this M1 0-40 out this weekend. It worked ok, but I prefer the zrod.

If he is in deed a vendor here why is it taboo for you to say who it is?

Big name vendor/tuner doesn't mean anything to me. I am continually disgusted by the crap so-called tuners do.

I wish vendors/shops would say why NOT to use Mobil 1 5W-30 that GM recommends vs. just saying "You should only use XXX brand oil."
If someone can't give me a good reason to NOT use GM's recommendation, I'll keep using it.

I have heads, cam, CAI, and tune. Not big numbers but 525 rwhp. The shop that did my build told me to run Motul. First time I changed my oil, I put Mobile 1 5w-30 back in. Almost 20k miles later and not a problem of any kind, no leaks, no noise, no oil consumption, nothing.
I do not track my car at all. Just occasional spirited driving.
