Default Oil level 08 Z06

Just had an oil change and as usual I checked the level when I got home.
It is about 1" above the full dot. With this Oil system in the Z is this a major problem. Will the oil foam if I am not tracking the car? I guess I am asking if I can ignore the fact that is overfilled. (because it is a dry sump system)
Thanks

If you checked the fluid level properly then yes it is a problem and you will shoot it into your intake if you dont empty it to proper levels.

Default 08 Z06 Oil Level

Thanks. I actually checked it cold. That's probably not the correct method.

I would drain the fill tank and go from their. I think it holds about 2 qrts. That is if you can do it yourself. If not I would be making a phone call to whoever changed it.

Default Oil level

Why can't I do it myself? I know it has 2 drain plugs.
Can I drain either. I think it is 1 quart overfilled.
Thanks

Well, you took it somewhere to get it changed and I saw you checked it cold. Saw the check it cold part after I replied. So I wasn't sure.

This is incorrect. Check your owner's manual. Do it right. Then decide if you really do need to drain any.

checking it cold would give you a low reading. Not sure about 2008 but 2009 z's with the 10.5 quart system you warm the car up to 175 degree oil temp. Turn the car off while on level ground. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Then check. On the dipstick for the 2009 there are 3 marks. Mine is just under the top mark after an oil change refilling with 10.5 quarts after a change. Make sure to drain from both plugs and change the filter. It's easy to do yourself. And refill at the sump.

My 2007 will read little or nothing after sitting long enough to be cold. I think 2008's are the same. I suspect they only drained one of the plugs.
With 8 qts after a chance, warmed up and waiting 10 mins it reads 1/2 to 2/3 between add and full.

If you checked it cold then it is even more over filled than you think. I would not start the car. I would have the mechanic tow your car to his facility and correctly fill it. I would also document the whole thing incase you start having any problems with the motor.

No it isn't. You have to let the engine run until the oil temperature is at least 175 degrees and then shut the engine off. Once off wait 5 minutes but no longer than 20 minutes and check the oil level. The 08 and earlier systems took 8 quarts while the 09 and later systems took 10.5 quarts. If the person who changed the oil didn't have the proper book in front of them they could have easily added 10.5 quarts of oil and overfilled your engine. Also, if the person didn't pull out both drain plugs the system could have easily been over filled if they just added 8 quarts assuming the system was empty.

As long as the oil is at one the the 3 holes on the dipstick 5 to 10 min . after driving to oil temps over 170 you're fine. That's why I dont' trust 99% and do my own. I understand some can't and it's unfortunate you get al lot of guys that work on old toyotas all day. If me... id just lay the price at the stealership. It should be done right at a nice price of 3 digits.
