Default It Can't Be...

Been away for a few days so apologies if someone else has already realized or posted this.

I was reviewing the basic stats on the C6 Z06 then noted something that at first seemed like an amazing but surely improbable detail. So I began to cast a wider net. When I finally hauled the catch to the surface I was left slack-jawed at what I found. If accurate, then the Corvette Z06 is not just the next iteration of the now legendary name but a watershed event in supercar history.

Does anyone realize that with 500hp/475 lb.-ft. of torque and a projected curb weight of 3,130 lbs. the C6 Z06 will meet or better the power-to-weight ratios of the Dodge Viper SRT-10, Lamborghini’s flagship Murcielago, The Mercedes SLR McLaren (!) and FORD’s ALMIGHTY GT?!

Does anyone here realize that the upcoming C6 Z06 will exceed the torque-to-weight ratio of the SLR McLaren, the Ford GT, the Porsche Carrera GT and THE ENZO?! That the torque-to-weight numbers of the C6 Z06 betters these other cars is particularly significant because not only do these cars represent the best efforts by their respective marques but, even more importantly, cars like them are generated so rarely that it will likely be years before the they will field a vehicle to supercede the C6 Z06.

In sum, the upcoming C6 Z06 will exceed either or both the power-to-weight or torque-to-weight ratio of EVERY flagship street legal sports/supercar produced for sale in country today, for the past five to ten years and for the immediate future.

It can’t be. I must have miscalculated or missed something. Somebody check it.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Given the all-encompassing potential stats on this car if they price it for 1 penny below $73K prospective owners should exit the dealership with their ski masks firmly in place and a colleague or two covering the sales staff until he/she can make good their escape

Slow your statistical roll.

A diesel volkswagen toureg exceeds the C6's torque-to-weight ratio by a mile. So does a Dodge Ram.

It may take a day or two but it would be great to have a list of the weight/torque numbers for the supercars mentioned. (Assume the 3130 # is accurate for the Z06)

People have been thinking about the impossible 2900lb Vette and don't realize what an accomplishment it is to get to 3130 in a very sophisticated car. If it were easy, the others would as light.

I'm still stunned by the thought of a comfortable daily driver supercar with a price a fraction of competitors and whose performance is compeitive with anything on the road.

Of course someone still won't like the steering wheel, but they will be so far in the rear view mirror... ...

While I would like to see the Z06 price in the lower $60's, relative to its competition, even at $70-75k it's a screaming deal.

You beat me to it. I had the exact same reaction.

Zivnuska: I will post all the stats tonight as well as the links to as many sources as possible for verification.

On paper, it does beat the Ford GT. But the only dyno of the Ford GT that I have seen had it putting 565hp to the rear wheels, and even then it was slipping on the dyno. In a direct comparo with the Enzo, the GT ran 11.2 versus 11.0 for the Enzo in the quarter. The GT is 3475lbs and the Enzo is 3009 lbs. For the Gt to weigh almost 500 lbs more and only be 2 tenths behind in the quarter, it has go to have more than 550 hp. Ford has to the underrating it, just like the 03 Cobra. Based on the dyno and drivetrain loss, I think it is probably putting out around 640 to 650hp. That would give it 5.34 lbs per hp, compared to 6.26 lbs per hp for the Z06. Torque would probably be the same story. That being said, the extra weight won't help it at the track. It will be interesting to see how they match up head to head. Either way, the performance value is the new Z06 is impossible to deny.

Here are some numbers:

Z06: 6.26lb/hp, 6.59lb/lb-ft
=================================
Ford GT: 6.40lb/hp, 7.04lb/lb-ft
Lambo: 6.98lb/hp, 8.26lb-lb-ft
So far the Z06 has them out gunned....
=================================
SLR McLaren: 6.20lb/hp, 6.52lb/lb-ft
A hair better than the C6 Z06....
=================================
Carrera GT: 5.19lb/hp, 7.21lb/lb-ft
As we already knew, the Carrera GT will easily beat the new Z06.
