Same thing I thought, but I would guess it does help with engine bay cooling and thats never a bad thing. The aftermarkets will surely pick up on it though.

I had a feeling the scoop was all for show. There is not enough cross sectional area in that scoop to allow sufficient air flow to feed a 427 ci engine.
