The C6 was a more radical departure from C5. C7 still looks similiar to C6
Actually I think the C7 is a more radical departure from the C6 then it was for the C5 to C6. However, I think GM will want to allow it sooner then later to sustain sales. The economy was much stronger the last time around. Can only imagine how many people probably took out home equity loans to help finance the new C6 - not happening this time around.

I respectfully disagree. The hype of the C6 was highly anticipated at the time, but I don't think it was at the level of the C7 stingray back in January. The 05 C6 narrow body was more of an evolve C5 than a radical departure. One of the reason why I did not upgrade from a C5 to a C6 right away because of the similarity the two generation shared. Body style was not a drastic departure and even the interior, although the C6 was an upgrade, still have C5 characteristic. Had GM not introduce the C6 GS, I may have gone straight to a C7 Stingray. The C7 Stingray is a new radical change over the C6.

This is February 2014 and I spoke to my dealer about a C7 convertible. He has heard they they MIGHT start offering an employee discount in March, or that they may decide to do it in March. That would be the coupe and we are coming up on spring so convertibles will definitely not be discounted. I doubt that coupes will either. The hype on the car presents it as a much better value than the C6 and it is.

Te real question is when are they going to raise the price?

Spoke directly with a Forum dealer today. He said there is absolutely no indication from GM yet on when the supplier or employee discounts would start. He said that if they started to offer these it would not be until after 3/31/14.

Casual observation, seems some price breaks are coming especially with the 2015's right around the corner. Demand for the C7 is not infinite and the hysteria will abate.

As we get closer to the end of the model year, discounts will increase like they always do, unless of course the demand is still very strong. Chances are, although the C7 is a fabulous car and the vette is attracting buyers from other brands like Porsche etc( it's a quantum leap forward and Porsche buyers are tired of paying TWICE as much for comparable performance), the normal pattern of good discounts will prevail. If we're seeing 3000/4000 discounts on non-Z51's now, likely they'll be 5/6 grand by June and not far behind for the Z51, is my guess. If GM does the 2015 C7 reveal at the bash in april, some of the probable new features like the on board data recorder, stand alone mag ride option for the non Z51, color changes, other minor cosmetic etc, will as usual drive some to wait for the 2015, and affect the demand for the 2014 somewhat. A win/win for both the 2014 and 2015 buyers.

It means no employee discount before 3/31/14 and IF there was one, it would not be until after 3/31/14.

Well I don't think the question is really "IF" but "WHEN"

very interesting reading gentlemen. i tend to agree with the general opinions expressed….and if i can paraphrase what one member said…there are, in fact, a limited number of people that buy these type of cars at these type of prices…..also, market manipulation may work in the short term….but will fail in the end. good hunting to all of you.

I was simply repeating what I was told. Employee pricing will happen some day, but the big question he has no answer from GM on was IF there will be employee pricing in Q2, which is what the majority of us care about.

Any other dealer that says anything different than, "there could be employee pricing in Q2, but we don't know if or when yet" is just shootong from the hip.

We will know for sure once GM announces it.

it seems funny that time really passes quickly these days….except waiting for a resolution of this issue….not so quickly. heading to spring mountain in 2 weeks, so at least i will get a chance to drive the do do out of it….that could be a good thing ( satisfy my want for awhile ), or a bad thing ( send me over the top, thereby producing impatience ) thank you for your reply. rex

Dealer inventory is a key factor in GM offering employee/supplier pricing. Right now they have about a 15 day supply, when that number reaches 30 is probably when GMS will be offered. My bet in April/May.
