Default Tax when purchasing from out of state dealer

Sorry for the noob question. I live in OH and have a high sales tax. I'm seeing posting for dealers in NH advertising no state sales tax and drop shopping for $300 to local dealer. Will I have to pay OH state sales tax when I try to title/register the car in OH?

Default Yes, but....

I live in AZ and purchased from a dealer in CA. I bought it sight unseen and had it shipped to me via hired transport. Since I bought it out of state I did not have to pay sales tax on the purchase to CA.

What did happen though is that I did not have to pay sales tax when I registered, I had to pay a use tax. Sales tax would have been around 8.? percent, I only had to pay 6.2 I believe. I ended up coming out about $1200.00 ahead by doing that.

Each state is different, so you need to research the laws in OH.

In AZ if you buy used from a private seller (not a dealer/business) it is tax free.

Just a couple things to look into.

The rules are slightly different in every state. Simply call your local DMV they will be able to answer the question for you.

Thanks all.

I discovered in OH when registering a car the sales price must be printed on the title. The DMV will then collect sales tax based on the title purchase price before allowing you to register the vehicle.

Thats how it is in PA. I bought my truck in GA and when I titled it in PA, I paid sales tax.
