You can do it with the motor in the car but if a customer were to ask us to do it, we would pull the motor out and do a light hone to ensure the best possible result from our piston/rod combo. R&R the motor is $2000 through us.

I am debating this myself, currently I am running 8.4 psi @13* with the oem 11.5. I am wondering if lowering to 10.5 and running 21*of timing will yield more horsepower that 11.5 @ 8.4 and 13*.

I don't see these cars running that much timing at all. That was how more than a few shops has blown up a number of motors. Big diff in LS set up & this LT DI inj. This motor set up will not take much timing like the LS... Robert

That's kind of an arbitrary timing number... how did you come to knowing it would take 21* exactly?

Thanks for the response. So about $4400 for a much stronger engine.

It's about 15 hours to complete (including a light hone). You don't HAVE to pull the engine to do the hone but we do just to ensure perfection. You also don't have to do a light hone but we do recommend it and require it if a customer comes to us for install.

meanwhile, have an lt4 in my z06, and i am trying to find pistons that give me 11 or 11.5 compression to increase the fuel mileage and power.

Know of anyone who would have a deal going on forged pistons and rods with such numbers?

Replied. Sorry for the late response due to the long weekend.

We can handle that. It wouldn't be a drop-in setup but we can do it.

ballpark price?

Also, the stock pistons and rods... in the lt4... what is their weakness? I guess, im always asking what the weak link in the lt4 engine is in general. ARP headstuds needed obviously, but other than that, if a person throws TT kit on the car, what would you say should be upgraded if the car is making 900hp at the wheels on pump gas with the larger injectors and larger fuel lobe on the cam? No meth on the proposed setup.

The stock set is extremely stout and we've seen it handle power well over 1000whp. Not really a weak point there but if you're shooting for the moon the "weak" point (if you can even say it's weak) is the top of the rod by the wrist pin where it tapers. We haven't really seen a lot of failures from them as it stands.

Heat seems to be the only enemy on the LT4 due to the small blower. Cool down the blower or replace it, get some proper cooling and crank it up.
