Single turbo 2014 z51 oil smell issues.. help?
ok so short and sweet.
i had a company use my car to create a single turbo setup.
pick up car, front seal blown out, tune not done...
i chose to take elsewhere. They added a catch can, fixed the tune and the front seal. Now I am getting ALOT of oil/fuel smell/smoke coming from the catch can. They are wanting me to put a heavy weight oil in the car but I'm thinking there has to be more to it.
im trying to read up on all this stuff but honestly some of it seems crazy technical and I don't live in an area where they specialize in corvettes really...
so how can we eliminate this issue? Light the car on fire? Of course.... but let's be serious here..
also I did a 1000 mile road trip and at about 750 miles the can was over flowing!!!!
attached photos.
thank you

Yes please. What is the right way? Thank you?
Ill snap photos of the kit when I have some free time again.
The car just sits, don't really wanna drive until issue is resolved.

Dont get involved with all the talk about the wrong way. The way its hooked up is fine. If the can was filled up with oil after that distance and based on the fact that you said the seal was blown out I will make the assumption that the engine is hurt. The oil smell is another tell tale sign. The crank seal is blown out due to detonation no other reason. It needs to detonate really badly for that to happen and very likely the rings are gone. Car should not have been driven till tuned.

OH LORD.... ok let me clarify, picked up car and the seal was blown then and tune. It done. He car was loaded onto a trailer at that time and then stayed on the trailer until I took to other shop. Other shop repaired the seal and the. Tuned it. Car runs great, is not smoking out of the exhaust or anything like that, just that damn catch can smells!!!
Again the car was not driven(by me) with the blown seal

Another clarification from what I can see and tell this catch can is just open.. so the plumbing goes straight from the valve covers to catch can. No return. I'm seriously thinking of switching out and using a different set up to see what happens

In your original post you mentioned you have "smoke" coming out of the catch can? Is it SMOKE or is it vapors? Your setup is similar to mine but I also vent from the valley and to the dry sump tank. It's the lashway motorsports can.
If you are seeing SMOKE out of that filter in the car then you have a ring issue. Period. If you're just seeing and smelling vapors then the best thing to do is route that filter outlet down under the car. Here is what I did. Different can, but you get the picture.

Every catch can setup I've seen that vents to atmosphere flat out stinks, some people are more sensitive to it than others though.
Still.. It seriously sounds like it might be a ring land issue. I know you don't want to hear it, but everyone is telling you that for a reason
Have a compression/leak down test done and that should give you some real info to work with.

What shop did this? Sounds like they need to stay far away from tuning a C7.

Plug I agree with c7&7 on the smoke coming from the can. Looks like OP all they did is used your cat as a G/pig plus tore it all up as far as the motor goes. That is 95% more oil in the can for a 750 mile trip. I would get back up with that shop to see if it would help on repairs to it.

But the OP did say they didn't tune it. Just blown out the front r rear seals. That is what I hate about all these dam shop one day they are in const work the next day tuning cars & putting parts on them.

Yes I see what I would call smoke coming from the catch can, you can visibly see it when just barely applying gas to get up to cruising speed.
I suppose I'll contact local engine builder to test compression and go from there.

I will absolutely not send the car back to the shop that installed it.

Good thing is if they have anything are a home owner you can get a lien put on the shop & the owner of the shop. Plus put them in the BBB for what good the last one is..

Probably lost a piston.l
That spark plug wire won't last. Heat shields won't work if they are touching the header. You need an airgap, or it will just cook the wire in a short time.

I'd rather have an air gap with no heat sleeve than a heat sleeve that's touching the pipe
