Default Automobile Magazine - C7

Anyone catch the article in the August 2007 issue of Automobile Magazine entitled "CHEVROLET CORVETTE SUPER SPORT"? For those that haven't, it states, and I quote, "Plan on spending $100,000 for the last hurrah before the C7 Corvette arrives in a mid-engine configuration."

First I've heard of this. Do they know something we don't? Is GM chasing the Ford GT? Only time we tell I guess.

Pure speculation, I believe. I can't see the General changing the Corvette so radically when the current formula works so well.

although, they did move the transmission to rear with the C5/C6. Maybe they have been toying around with the idea.

Just saw that this morning. Makes sense. After all, what else can they do with the current car? Duntov will finally get his wish. It will certainly make for controversy. If it improves the car's performance then it will be a winner.

As noted its all SWAG at this point but despite Corvette's already excellent weight distribution ratios, it wouldn't surprise me to see a mid-engine C7. It will be interesting to watch as the C7 reveals itself over the coming years.

Maybe we'll end up with bigger cargo space!

The current cargo area is amazing. I bought some chrome wheels and stuffed all 4 of them back there. Mid engine will put the trunk in the front and it will be small.

First of all, it's pretty obvious they are referring to the "Blue Devil/SS/Z07 when they say $100,000. That has been a given.

Second, the mid-engine thing has been going on for decades. As "jesse" said, that rumor goes back to the early '70's. I still have the Motor Trend Magazine with the sketch on the cover. I suppose they could do it, but from a cost standpoint, I don't see them giving up the current platform for many years. It's an excellent platform to build from, and keeps the cost in the 35,000 units a year price point.

Yes, probably everyone in this forum section knows about it.

I just read this as well. Very interesting how they subtly throw that in there like it's no big deal. They sound confident in their statement as well.

Let's see what happens.....

Wouldnt a shift to the mid-engine design doom the V8? A six with a turbo? Yuk!

You are correct Shawn(but you knew that!). Even though the displacement in less, the HP is higher. Now I see the possibilities!

Chevy already caught the Ford GT-- the Z06.
