Introduction

The Corvette; such an iconic GM vehicle. It's the car that everyone loves, and has a place in the hearts and minds of millions of people around the world. It's Chevrolet's equivalent of the 911, and the two vastly different cars are often compared head to head as ideological opposites. The car that can compare with rivals costing far more; .that car is the Corvette. And that's the car we had the task of redesigning, quite possibly the hardest of all the RIA cars we have done before. Our hardest vehicle, in the hardest lineup. Efforts in this lineup have culminated with, and in our idea of what the next generation C7 Corvette should be.
In this RIA, our C7 Corvette's styling follows an more evolutionary, rather then revolutionary path. Overall the car is much more emotional and dramatic, with a more planted stance and low-slung look. Things like a swooping downward character line add drama and excitement to the car, while still retaining that unmistakable Corvette look.

We followed the mantra of "don't mess with success" in hammering out the details on the C7, especially in regards to price. The Corvette is an attainable supercar, and that's something that shouldn't be changed. The LT starts at $47,150 and bumps up the horsepower from current C6 levels to 450HP. And, as is the case now, is available in a few different packages, 1LT, 2LT and 3LT. Z06, which starts at $70,250, increases the HP level to 600HP from it's 7.0L LS7 V8. A new addition to the model line is the "Super Corvette", which we have called the Corvette SS. The Corvette SS, starting at $115,000, has a supercharged version of the engine, making 850HP. The SS also adds features like ceramic brakes, something GM has opted out of the current car because of the over $10k cost. The price has been brought down though, however and it's a feature that certainly should be present on the very best of Corvettes.
Lots of debate on where to take the Corvette, both in RIA and inside GM. Some have said to take the Corvette mid-engine. That's the worst course of action because it destroys the very essence of the Corvette in that it's an attainable supercar. In price as well as styling, future Corvettes should stick to the principles that made it what it is. A mid-engined vehicle has it's place at Cadillac, but not as a Corvette. Our proposed C7 Corvette arrives around the time of the production vehicle, in 2010 as a 2011 model.

Interesting. Some of those cars on that site look pretty darn good. Nice to see bumps in HP too - hopefully they will follow through with that.

Very nice, anyone notice the front quarter panels have more of the C5 flare back? That is a nice design, newer technology with again the C3 influence which is my favorite.

It should be pointed out that this series at GMI is basically their *recommendation* on what the GM lineup should look liek for various brands (this one being chevrolet). The 2011 corvette data and images are purely speculation or how the Chevrolet lineup will look in 2-3 years in their own little parallel universe.

600hp from a 7.0 liter engine seems like a pretty lofty target for an OHV design. I thought the aftermarket 7.0 liter engines were putting out close to that...if not less? I would also assume the aftermarket bunch have lopier cams and aren't as emission friendly.

stupid question, but when you read the text on the "SS" corvette, it says it will have a supercharged motor making 850 horsepower, but when you look at the engine types available, it says 750 horsepower?

Default C7

Now that's a great looking Vette, great improvement over the C6.
I love the C3 look of it, looks like we are getting some wild lines back.
And a few hundred extra HP to boot OMG.

Very interesting. But if the above post thinks it looks like a C6.25, it would really be a C5.75 as the C6 is really a C5.5!

Anyone that didn't arrive at that obvious conclusion is living in denial. They just made the front end look lotus elise-ish and then made those round curves over the lights. No way is that a "C7" thats about as different as the "next generation" slogan nissan hyped for all their crappy cars. They look the same minus some light changes. Its like calling an LS1 camaro a "5th gen". I'm not buying it.

Looks like a cross between a C-5 and C-6.

Viper called raise with 600 HP Viper and corvette doubles down for 2011
with 600 and 750 HP corvette.

Just try an see dodge catch us now. The american HP wars are over and chevy has won.

is it me or the only thing that looks good is that RWD impala? is GM on sometype of asian look fpr the fronts of their cars? if thats the C7 thats ugly and with 450 hp it still wont beat a C5Z becuase ill bet it gains weight.

Why? The 650HP "blue devil" (or Stingray...whatever it's called now) is OHV. Just a pretty awesome roots blower design on it. But it's still OHV. Besides, most the cars at your local drag strip putting out 1,500 horsepower are OHV.
