A Rare Sighting, a 2009 ZR1! And a Filthy one at that! Pics....
Getting ready for our weekly Sunday morning breakfast cruise, MesaRed ( Forum member) and his son come flying down our street and into our driveway with a tad more urgency than usual. I thought, man they must be really hungry this morning or one of them just must need a restroom in a hurry!
MesaRed's son comes running into the house saying "Hurry! Let’s roll! We just saw a new ZR1 pull into Starbucks just around the corner!" "Let’s go check it out!"
Well crap, my wife was out the door and into the car with the camera before I even had my shoes on!
Less than two minutes later, sure enough and to my surprise there it was. A ZR1!
Since GM's Desert Proving Ground is only a few miles south of our house it's not uncommon to see various GM test vehicles around here. But nothing as special as this!
As it turns out it was one of seven GM's test mules. The driver was fueling up with a quick breakfast at Starbucks before continuing on a long road trip thru Arizona, on to San Diego and eventually up around Colorado.
It was evident this car was getting a pretty good workout. Even though this ZR1 was a little rough looking, it still was an exciting and rare treat to see it on the road in person!
Here are a few pictures….

Since these cars will be driven in many different areas of the country and at different altitudes ect., there is a wide variety of fuel types out there. There is a need to flush out the tanks from time to time. It's just one of many aspects of the testing process.

What were they testing on the car....the paints durability when crapped on by a flock of buzzards???? Remind me not to drive through this area without some armor! But under the sh*& there appeared to be a very sweet ride.
