Default Does GM Designer Hear Us!!!

When they start to design the new generation of Corvette?
does they take the customers/owners opinion?

GM does clinics and roundtables and surveys and they show owners concepts under deep secrecy. I'm sure they even lurk around forums. They develop a profile they call the "Voice of the Customer" and it guides a lot of the development of styling, features and options.

But it helps to say things like REMOVABLE HARD TOPS, loud and often.

GM has the C7 on hold, so as I see it, you should let your opinions be heard, they Do listen to the Forum members, I should know, I got into some serious trouble talking about the ZR1 when we were building that car. I was known as Gohard777 back then and then, GM made me the Limp1 . I better not say more but that GM was merely trying to protect things that they thought I was exposing..........

You should be more concerned with the engineers. Designers want the best, coolest thing possible, problem is some of the imagination is lost in translation from concept to production.

You can tell from the Camaro concept to production that the designers had more control.

The Camaro concept shows us that they DO listen, so lets start making lots of noise.

I want a seatback and a steering column with continuous adjustment. With the present setup, the right position always seems to be BETWEEN the notches. Plus the seatback adjustment is chintzy.

The rest of the C6 package is pretty damn great, and GM just needs to make sure they don't take anything away. Delaying C7 is a smart move -- wait until the culture's present Slash Everything mood has passed. Let technology improve the breed; don't let overreaction to change kill it.

The bean counters have FINAL say. Nothing is approved without going past them. GM has a price point goal on every vehicle, at inception. The ZR1 I believe was just under $100k. If the seatback and steering column is cheap to make in it's present version, something else would have to suffer to upgrade. It's all a big money game they play. It's the way it is and will not change soon. Engineers and designers HATE bean counters, but without them, brilliant engineers and designers would be cut loose and Corvettes would be $250k. Welcome to Detroit....

Or they could charge a little more for the car, a precedent that's quite well established, as anyone who's not on their first Corvette knows.

But thank you Captain Obvious for the lesson on How It Is In Detroit and the folly that is the Voice of the Customer. Consider me educated.

If they listen so hard, how come they were so far behind Toyota and Honda with fuel efficient cars.

What 400+ hp sports car does Toyota or Honda make that gets better mileage than the 'Vette? At any time in the 'Vettes history has a competitive Toyota or Honda gotten better fuel economy?

Is GM actually behind in CAFE? I don't think so.

Actually, they're not...for a 430hp vette, getting 26mpg is not shabby at all...they have more 30+mpg cars than any other makes

I think the poster is taking about economy cars, not the Corvette and competitors. Let's face, not many people here would buy a GM car other than the Corvette. I think GM's cars are getting better, but the reality is, GM misses a lot of details on their bread and butter cars. Case in point - I rented two different Pontiac G6's. Both lost oil pressure on hard right turns, the headlights on high beam were over driven at 50 mph, the A/C fan noise was obnoxious on anything but low, it still had a 4 speed auto, the radio digital volume steps meant it was either too loud or too quiet, road noise was terrible...need I go on? After driving those two G6's I was glad to get out. I don't understand how the engineers are missing this stuff. About the only good thing I could say were the brakes were good.
