Default C7 Should Go Back to Popup Headlamps - Why? LIDAR!

Read any laser gun test, and what are the two areas used for laser speed detection: the front plate, and the headlamps. Both of these items increase laser detection range considerably. Laser is getting more and more prevalent, and it is next to impossible to detect due to its narrow beam. The only real defense is stealthness. For that reason alone, I would like to see the C7 go back to popup headlamps. Perhaps with LED headlamps, it could be a very low popup.

By the way, I'm not in love with popups, although I know some people here are. However, when they become functional to the point of avoiding getting a ticket, it seems like the way to go. Also don't suggest a jammer. They're illegal in my state.

Just cover your headlights in the daytime.

Same thing.

With what that is going to stay on any any kind of speed?

Rather than stopping the car, getting out, removing covers, I think I would rather just use the headlamp switch.

I never liked the pop-up headlights... Here's the counter-measure for lidar: Lookup 'laser veil' on Google - A coating you can put on your headlights to reduce the effectiveness of lidar. There are some videos around showing tests, and, IIRC, to get an reading the lidar operator had be at a very short range. So, add in a good detector with the 'veil' and you should have time to slow down, if necessary.

I've been using LIDAR since 1995, and I've never used the headlights as an aiming point. It's allways the front portion of the vehicle with the most surface area. The only way I would utilize the headlights is to let me see the vehicle at night and I only worked LIDAR at night a few times.

To the OP:

Why would you want to go back to pop-up headlights if that is exactly what HELPS them tag you with laser??? I have popups, and wish they weren't. One, they're a great big pair of air brakes, and two they love to reflect laser and radar.

To another poster above: If I remember right, laser jammers are legal everywhere. Radar jammers however, are illegal everywhere.

I found this thread while looking for information on Veil.

Laser jammers and even passives measures are illegal in some states. SC is one of them. Here is a link that shows what states have these laws.

air brakes, I love it. The best reflections will come off of the surface that is nearest normal to the gun. That means pop-ups are worse than fixed lights when up. Don't know about when down.

So yeah, to the original poster... go the speed limit? And as for pop ups, while they do look sleek when they're off, they throw off the styling when they're on and they have tiny little motors that break all the time. I can do without.

When the C6 came out GM finally corrected a 42 year old design mistake when they got rid of the pop up headlights.

I would definitely prefer regular headlights NOT popups.
