C7 hardtop convertible?

As rjwz28 mentioned, GM offered both versions on the C6 platform. The hardtop version was called an XLR. They have the essentials of the hardtop technology available so the hardtop is not an option for some other reason. One reason might be inadequate Corvette volume to justify the cost of another model when they already have a coupe with a removable roof and a conventional convertible to compete with it.

XLRs also weigh quite a bit more than their ragtop C6 counterparts... I imagine this contributes quite a bit as well
