I wonder how far along it is in design and engineering. Is it going to be an entirely new car such as the 84 was ? Or is it going to borrow some things of the C6. If it is fairly well along, who knows, maybe a C6 in the Chevy parking lot is a mule of the c7..
Also, when is it schedule to be introduced ? Lots of questions, few answers.
I know I will never be able to afford one. I am content with my old 87. It is enough for me.
But I cant wait to see it ..

At least a year out, GM is pushing the ZL Camaro for 2012. The C7 would be good for the 60th anniversay in 2013.
Besides, as stated in other thread. Once GM puts out a picture of the new C7, the C6 is DOA.

"The premise the article makes is that the market for $50,000-$100,000 sports cars will return but not to Corvette as long as the car appeals only to the baby boomer demographic of buyers who are 50 years or older. For the C7 Corvette to break out and sell to a younger generation, GM needs to refashion the Corvette to make it more appealable to younger buyers.
Internal studies by GM show that buyers under 40 years old don’t aspire to drive the Corvette like the older baby boomer demographic who view the Corvette as a reward after their children have grown."
So does GM really expect there to be a majority of buyers under 40 who can fork out $50K to $100K for a sports car? I really can't see the Vette becoming a $25K ~ $30K car marketed for the younger generation with all the upgrades planned for the C7.

Most cars selling new these days cost in the neighborhood of $30k, and the cheapest sports cars (aside from the $25k Miata) are all $35k plus. I don't think the C7 will drop at all from it's current price, so we have nothing to fear there.

The reason guys under 35 don't buy more Vettes is because they can't really afford them. It's not due to the styling of the Vette IMO. I'm sure if it only cost $25K ~ $30K there would have been tons of younger people buying the C5 and C6 models.

I was at my dealer today and asked about the C7. I was told we'll see it in January at the Detroit auto show and it'll enter production 2013 as a 2014 year model. Dunno how accurate this is but this is the latest gossip I've heard on it...

Not sure who you were talking to, but that's bovine defecation.

IF the C7 is to be shown at the Detroit show prior to release, it will be at the January 2013 show, not the 2012 show. And I just spoke to the GM of my Chevy dealer whom I know quite well and he told me that he did not have a clue as to the introduction of the C7.

As for when we see the car...I suspect not for a good while. No need for GM to show it to us, as the engineering mules can hide all day under C6 bodies.

Ding. The under 40 crowd aren't the ones that can generally afford this car. Why target a market that isn't there? The price of the corvette certainly isn't going to go down.

Those of us under 40 who like the attributes of the Corvette already like it, so why change it to something it is not and risk losing an already loyal customer base? Add more options and improve the quality, sure, but nothing more than updated styling and remaining competitive with its performance competitors is necessary IMHO. Also agreed on the mules. We won't see any good spy shots for at least another 10-12 months if the car will be coming out in fall 2013.
