When the time comes to buy my C7, I will be looking towards this forum for help.
I am going to be ordering the car exactly the way I want it, and doubt one on the lot will be perfect.
Like my current car I ordered performance, over luxury items, and have never looked back.

The last new Corvette base coupe priced at $28K was the '87 model. Do you seriously believe GM will roll back the price to what it was 24 years ago and sell you a new Corvette today? Please don't hold your breath.

$60K for a base coupe? What are you guys thinking?
The 2012 starts at $49,525, up from $49,050 for the 2011. Let's assume the 2013 goes up to $50,000.
What makes you think GM would be stupid enough to jack the base price up 20% and think the buying public would ever stand still for that?
$51,000 assuming basic same equipment, $52,000 would be a stretch.

As far as performance goes. The goal with the C6 was to put the base model C6 near C5ZO6 performance. I don't see why they would deviate from that same plan now placing the C7 near C6ZO6 performance.

Price of the base car can easily be $40,000 - $45,000 , but of course we all know it'll be north of $50,000 , or an additional 25%.

I think we'll be lucky to get an aluminum frame or hit 3100lbs.

A loaded Camaro SS will cost you $45K+. Is it wise for a C7 Base Corvette to be priced lower or around the same price as a Camaro? I would prefer to see it at least $10k above the best Camaro. At the same time, it must be worthy of the price.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but believe the Boxster/Cayman can be optioned right up to near the base price of a 911.

If GM can sell the Corvette for $40K, then you also believe that:
The Porsche Cayman can be sold for $41,500 instead of $51,900.
The Ford Focus can be sold for $13,200 instead of $16,500.
The Mustang 302 can be sold for $32,200 instead of $40,300.
The Dodge Viper can be sold for $72,800 instead of $91,000.
The CTS-V can be sold for $50,500 instead of $63,200.
The Ferrari 599 can be sold for $248,00 instead of $310,500.
The Camaro ZL1 can be sold for $43,200 instead of $54,000.
The Chevy Aveo can be sold for $9,600 instead of $12,000.
Or the price of food should be dropped by 20%, or gasoline by 20%, or medical cost by 20%, or your wages by 20%, etc. You probably get the idea it ain't ever going to happen.

Do any of you know the price differential between the last year C5 vs first year C6? Maybe that will give a clue?
Regarding dealers, they will get as much money for any car as the market will allow.

My view is simple in that if they price it too high, we as their primary buyers group, will not be able to afford the car therefore they won't sell as fast as they hope. Sure, to some, money is no object...must be nice. For the majority of buyers, money can't be thrown away and when I see a dealer charging a dealer-markup, I walk away. Also, the two Corvettes that I have now, C-5 and C-6, I bought the 3rd year of the model and have not had issues whereas the first year models seem to have problems.
