New Corvette model line at Detroit Auto Show?
Maybe I've overlooked it, but there's something going on at the Detroit auto show that I haven't seen anyone write about in the press. It looks as if Chevy is finally starting to do something with the concept of making a Corvette line of sporty vehicles.
Notice the Corvette emblems on both of these concept small sport coupes. These concepts certainly don't have Corvette layouts or performance, but they are attractive, sporty, and youthful. Those emblems didn't get placed there by mistake. Chevy has said they are targeting a younger more global audience with the C7, and these seem to be doing the same thing from an entirely different angle. Maybe Corvette is about to become something of a sub-brand within Chevy, and if so these two concepts would make excellent entry level models.

Come on guys why all the negative reaction? They are both really cool concept cars and expanding the Corvette "line" will do nothing but ensure both the future of Corvette and the number of cool cars made by Chevy. I think it's a win-win.

The cross flags have been on many chevrolet performance vehicles in the past. Even the Corvair had them. This is nothing new. It just so happens that the Corvette is the only vehicle to retain them.
Notice that the crossed flags on these concepts lack the fleur de lis? Only the Corvette crossed flags include that.

To you maybe, but the rest of us think they look like troll cars.

From what I read recently, the Dodge branding will be dropped from the new Viper. Apparently, Chrysler wants to have all of their performance vehicles under the SRT banner. Maybe Chevy wants a performance sedan & coupe (by using the CTS-V platform) and they are thinking about making a performance line???

Really? Is that what everyone thinks? Are you telling me that nobody thinks that either of those cars (I prefer the red one) with a turbo 4 and a stick shift wouldn't be a blast to drive? More importantly, are you telling me that they wouldn't be a success with young people? Maybe I'm biased. I'm way younger than the average age on this board and I drive a Cobalt SS Supercharged as my daily driver, which is of course a garage mate to my '69 Vette. But then again, isn't it people like me that Chevy wants and NEEDS to target?

The 130R looks pretty good to me, and if they included the 270hp 2.0L Turbo 4, could be very fun to drive depending on the weight.
The TRU 140 looks pretty cool as well, but I prefer rwd.

Haven't the crossed flags been used on many past "SS" (Super Sport) models? I don't think they have ever been exclusive to Corvette.

You guys are going WAAAAYYYY back in time to think of cars that also had the crossed flags on them. In the modern era, I think this shows that there's something in the works. Especially since it's on not one but two concept cars.
