World's different in power production methods but the fact that they both rival and surpass current 6.2 liter and 7.0 liter Corvette engines except the LS9 is telling.
Also keep in mind when comparing 500hp from a 4.5L and 500hp from a 7.0L is that the power delivery will be extremely different. Look at a dyno graph comparing the two engines. Corvettes are notorious for having gobs of power at any time in the rev range. Ferrari's are like Hondas and need to revved to Mars to reach their power. Not to mention torque is completely incomparable between the two engines.

Yes, but I'm not sure that's any more fact/truth than it not having a 6.2L is. The sources and accuracy of some of this information is always questionable, we really don't truly know for sure yet.

Something doesn't add up with the numbers quoted.

505 * 6.64 = 3,353.2 lb (not 3,555)

6.2 liters for the gen five v8 for the vette.

475hp at a minimum.

That's also what I'm expecting/hopeful for. Adding Direct Injection to the L92 truck engine (~403hp stock) yielded "well north of 450hp" in tests GM did in 2007. It is not unreasonable to expect 475+ from a Gen V 6.2L with direct injection, some form of variable timing, and reductions in friction in Corvette tune, IMO.

That is $58k with the SVT handling package and no other options.. I know where there is new 2011 red 3LT GS manual Corvette for $57k, even with less power, seems like a better deal to me.
Huh...........? The 2013 GT500 hasn't been priced yet. Are you referring to 2012's? The market is dead for them with the announcement of new 650hp 2013. Even here in crazy Calif I can get you a NEW 2012 GT500 with the svt pak for about $5000 UNDER MSRP.

I'm not advocating a GT500 over a GS--2 totally different markets and buyers but gotta keep the facts correct when bench racing.

As far as the original concept of the thread- smaller motor who cares? Seriously. My GS has a 6.2 running 436 hp. My Boss 302 is running a 5.0 lt at 444 hp. I think Corvette can do very nicely with a 5.5 lt engine and still break 500hp.

Good points...things are different (better) now, technology can be a wonderful thing.

.
Yes 2012 GT500s, I haven't looked lately, but in Dec, they were still getting $5000 over MSRP around here. But to be fair, Chevy dealers here were getting $2000 over MSRP on Vettes too. That is why I bought mine somewhere else.
