??? Which is faster ZL1 or base C7
Just to keep you C7 forum guys all jacked up. Pure speculation at this point.
Which will be faster, the super Camaro ZL1 or base C7? I'm guessing the C7 will have around 450HP. Which seems underpowered with all the cars in 600HP club.
The C7 needs at least 500hp to stay in the game. IMO.
and yes, I can't wait for car and driver to do a head to head test of the ZL1 and 2013 Shelby.
Let the debate begin, just play nice.

IF the C7 has 450hp I bet its atleast 100lbs lighter than a base C6
So 10hp more and 100lbs lighter isnt a bad bump
But I would bet the C7 has atleast 460hp

I don't think the base C7 will approach 500hp. I can say with some confidence though that it will be significantly lighter than the C6

So far, even a stock base C6 LS3 can beat a stock ZL1 in a straight line (but likely not around most road courses).
Now, the Camaro ZL1 is destined to put in quicker 1/4 mile times once cooler weather hits but thus far it's:
Corvette C6 LS3 = best of 11.71@119.94mph
Camaro ZL1 LSA = best of 11.93@116/117mph
So in short, yes, the base Corvette C7 should also be faster than the current Camaro ZL1.

Depending on the size/type of track/road course, yes, it could.
That Magnetic Ride Control and great tires go a long way at overcoming the car's size/weight. Plus that 580hp pulls it out of corners smartly.
Many agree that the ZL1 might even trounce the C6 (I believe that beating the Grand Sport around a track was sort of the 'benchmark' for the ZL1) but I personally think it might be a closer race than some give the base C6 credit for though.

Even the ultra-hyper-super efficient 458 doesn't make that kinda power. Nor does Lambos v10, nor does any naturally aspirated Porsche, no audi or BMW do, only 1 Benz motor does, no imports do, and not even all the super heavy weight Bentlys and Rolls do. To get to 600hp(other then vette, viper and mustang) you still have to spend SERIOUS amounts of money and even then your choices are limited.
Obviously that's far from the only factor that determines performance, which is why far more high performance cars are floating around 550hp last few years. But 600+ emissions legal, semi mpg friendly horsepower is still hard to come by. So at, say, 460hp and 29mpg highway, a 3150lb c7 really doesn't sound all that bad.

If you honestly sit down and count the number of 600+hp cars out there, I think you'll find the list is A LOT smaller then you think. It just feels like its the norm now with a viper, mustang, and vette making 600+ and two of them are being released at the same time so the press is non-stop.

I think with mods the comparison doesn't matter. Personally since I am going to modify the vehicle anyway I pay less attention to stock capabilities and more to possibilities. I like the way the Corvette looks better so even if the ZL1 proves to be quicker it won't be anything some after market parts can't fix.
I think if I was stuck driving a stock vehicle I might not even care what I drove. For me modifying them and keeping them constantly changing is what keeps them relevant to me. I had just as much fun modifying my 3 ton 5.3l suburban with headers , exhaust, a TB, and CAI, with a Diablo sport as I do Modding the Corvette.
I guess at the end of the day since they share common engines and drive lines it really comes down to which you like better. Stock for stock I think it will come down to a driver's race.

Some Corvette buyers do. Some are drawn to Corvette for the very qualities the Camaro ZL1 has in spades -- damn the interior, damn the looks, just give 'em wicked sledgehammer speed around a manly racetrack. I have nothing but respect for these big-grinned hairy-chested fellows, whether they end up in a Corvette, a ZL1, a Boss 302, a Cayman R, or what-have-you.
"Muscle cars only go fast in a straight line" -- they used to say the same thing about Corvettes. Times change and lines blur. Ain't it grand?

If that is actually the case, then my interest would move up several notches from where it currently sits. However, depending on what pricing does on the current ZR1's after the release of the new C7, I still may end up staying with the C6 model because the C6 ZR1 is definitely a vehicle of interest.

The C6 ZR1 is nothing short of a splendid machine.
