Thanks for posting, I don't think Automobile has any more of an idea than anyone else does but it's still good to read up on that stuff.
Hmm, I'd hinted at that in a post here just yesterday LOL.

Melting Slicks
I just got back from a Dr's appt, picked up a car mag, and saw a story called 45 cars worth waiting for, or something close to that. They had a rendering of the rear end of the C7, both my wife and I thought it was hidious looking. I told her if that's what the C7 really ends up looking like, I'll just keep my 2011.

I think the lights, even on the Camaro, look hideous compared to the original 67-69 era.

Think about how many nasty germs were left on those pages during endless months of coughing, hacking, runny noses, and grimy fingers turning the stained and sticky pages. Makes me shutter.

The Automobile Mag blurb does make sense to me - given what near death GM had just survived. Plausible that C8 would be a fairly modest downsize, reskin, with better mileage and similar performance to today's base car.
Have to remember that when the Z06 and ZR1 were designed, it was a different economy and a different GM. They were selling a lot more Corvettes every year too.
I will be interested to see what the Z versions look like, and am curious to see how they compare to my very minor modded, still warranteed '10 3LZ Z06 that weighs approx 3070 lbs and dynos at about 535 h/p, that I bought new last August for $63k.
I am ready to be impressed, but not betting the ranch at this point. I have had 1 C5 Z06 and 2 C6 Z's - will there be a fourth one in my future?

Totally disappointed
Ill keep my '09 thanks cause the new rear end has ruined Corvettes name forever. What were they thinking, did they just say, "let's get rid of our signature tail lights, any ideas???? .... Hey let's just through camaro light on and call it a day"

GM confirmed it was building an 8-speed auto last year.
The same month (May 2011) that GM announced the $131 Million investment into Bowling Green for the Corvette, they also announced $2 billion for other plants.
One of those plants was the Toledo transmissions plant. This was in the press release:
http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm/n...y/0510_bigbang
TOLEDO, Ohio – General Motors Co. announced Tuesday it will invest about $2 billion in U.S. assembly and component plants, creating or preserving more than 4,000 jobs at 17 facilities in eight states.
“We are doing this because we are confident about demand for our vehicles and the economy,” GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson said during an event at the 54-year-old Toledo Transmission Plant. “This new investment is on top of $3.4 billion and more than 9,000 jobs that GM has added or saved since mid-2009.”
With Ohio Gov. John Kasich, U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Toledo, and Toledo Mayor Michael Bell in the audience, Akerson said GM will invest $204 million to retain about 250 jobs for an all-new, advanced 8-speed automatic transmission for future vehicles that offer customers improved fuel economy and outstanding performance.

Weighed in at 3156 lbs on race shop scales with about 4 gallons of fuel. As I indicated in my post, I have done minor mods, nothing to disrupt my warranty - many of the mods were to reduce weight. Mods include: Akro Evo Ti exhaust (-34 lbs), 4 coleman aluminum hatted rotors (-32 lbs unsprung weight), replaced stock GYs with stock size Mich Pilot SS tires (another 16 lbs unsprung weight off), etc....

It's the same management idiots that decided to eliminate their most popular color, Black, to boost sales, that is recommending GM hangs Camero tail lights on the C-7's rear end. If that happens they need to be prepared for a backlash.

Hmmm- in that rendition, I can see definite elements of the XLR and previous-gen camaro... not sure if I like it as drawn, but hey, the Vette teams have never really screwed anything up, right? They're even getting around to fixing up the seats, right, & interiors next, so exterior style is the big question. I got faith in the designers, though I do hope that decreasing weight & width are key factors in the redesign!
