Yeah... that is TOTALLY NOT "C7 would not have the Grand Sport, the 427 Convertible, the Z06 or the ZR1, maybe they are planning on resurrecting an old name or thinking up a new one." That is simply what we all expected, that the first model year would have just coupe and convertible. That doesn't say there won't be more models beyond that during C7's run, or that GM will be coming up with new model names.

I guess it depends on how long is "for some time". A month, a year, five years? The point was that GM told the dealers that the models mentioned in the brochure would not be in the C7 lineup for "some time".
As for as coming up with new name, I didn't say they wouldn't come up with any new names. If they did come up with a new name to replace the Z06, ZR1, GS, etc, then they wouldn't be producing the old names, now would they? They would be producing the new named model.

I say BS. My car was at a Chevy dealership before a certain show put on by the dealership. While I was waiting for my car to brought up, I spoke with the fleet manager and asked if they would be getting any early previews of the C7. His response, "most likley those of us on the forum would know more about the C7 then they would before it comes out". I call that an honest and refreshing answer based on all this my saleman said this and that saleman said that.

C7 the best kept secret by GM in decades. I believe it's going to be awesome, after all they spent 135 million to retool the plant, thats four times what they spent to retool for the C6

Besides, what does it really matter how much is spent on retooling, if the car that rolls out the door isn't what you want to see?

It matters. I'd call it a good start for that much of an investment. I forgot they put that much into retooling.

I live very close to the GM Wilmington, De plant that is going through a major retool from the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky build to the extremely different electric Fisker over a three year period. That retooling, as extensive as I suspect it is, is quoted as $175 million!!!!!
What the heck is costing so much to prepare for the C7 if it's not an indication that some major changes to the Corvette is in the works?
Please Corvette friends enlighten me with your combined wisdom.

New tooling doesn't sell cars, it only makes them more expensive.
There are many who believe that massive changes are not needed for the C7. Evolutionary changes, which improve the breed, yes.

The plant investment may be a major reworking of an existing process... or it may be bringing in-house something that was done by a supplier. Which in turn could be an aluminum frame (Z06/ZR1 chassis today are built by a subcontractor and shipped to Bowling Green in one big piece) or something completely different (and less exciting).

You're exactly right in that the intent was not to insult, and the joke was received pretty much exactly as conveyed. My humor can indeed be crass and I appreciate the amnesty and levelheadedness. That said, there's really no way to jokingly call anybody a dummy anymore, as you can throw a stone and hit somebody within your range who is connected with whichever means of debilitation you choose as your jab at one's aptitude. While I can't in good conscience give an apology, I certainly can thank you for seeing it for nothing more than the crass humor it was.

Since GM has said the C7 would not have the Grand Sport, the 427 Convertible, the Z06 or the ZR1, maybe they are planning on resurrecting an old name or thinking up a new one. Since the 'Sting Ray' has such a favorable memory in most peoples eyes, it could make a comeback. I have an original 1964 Sting Ray in my garage, and I wouldn't mind seeing a 2014 Sting Ray in production.

Yup - it was first introduced in the 1958 model year (1959 shown above), and had a 4 door option right from the start. The Impala has been around ever since, except for '97, '98, and '99. The 10th generation version is coming out for 2014!
