It's cool that you enjoyed these features. But GM was just trying to solve engineering problems. The removable rear window was to compensate the deficient ventilation system. And the T-top was to eliminate structural problems they had been facing with their open top attempts. This added more rigidity.
Just goes to show how the "law of unintended consequences" can lead to strange destinations... sort how the path dependency developed on the famous Qwerty keyboard.......
Even Porsche enthusiasts rue the old Targa...... evidence the Ruf Roadster, and I'm guessing that the 1968 vintage Porsche Targa may have had a simliar rationale.
