Couple of things
The trans used in the Corvette is an Xtrac, very big $ and racing only.
I too took the comments in the vid to mean that work was being done on an auto shifting manual of some sort. Took some smiles and looks by the CE of Corvette at last year's bash to mean the same thing.
One thing for sure, more Vetts are sold with autos than manuals by a very wide margin. Lots of street cruisers. Given that, having an auto shifting manual should be economically feasible (spreading the cost accross a large number of cars), while at the same time providing a performance option for those who don't want to, can't or find shifting not suited for city driving.

Burning Brakes
XLR8 is a good one!
The Cadillac issue comes up periodically, and I'm not sure that anything draconian would happen to sales either way. Sales go up, then ebb at the end of a run, then take off when a new model is announced.
The one striking sales figure to me was the phenomenal sales throughout the 14 year run of the C3 Corvette, in spite of (or due to) the anemic HP ratings and only minor body/feature changes.
