Default The Old Corvette Ferrari!

FIRST PLACE
CHEVROLET CORVETTE ZR1

Outrageous speed, handling, and brakes at a price that simply embarrasses the competition. The new supercar king.

SECOND PLACE
FERRARI 599 GTB

At three times the price not nearly three times the car, but still unmatched in sophisticated speed and sex appeal.

I don't think the Jalopnik render looks so much like the 599. It looks like a natural evolution of the Corvette, and has familial GM design cues from the rear. From the side, the middle section and roofline reminds me somewhat of the Lotus Evora, though.
While it's a great looking car, especially in GTO format, the 599 is not an especially beautiful car by Ferrari/Pininfarina standards IMO and as such I think it will be something of a disappointment on GM's part if they ape a car from another manufacturer that will be out of production, rather than forging ahead with where Corvette design should go.

The original Sting Ray sketches were done by Peter Brock, of Cobra Daytona fame, at the direction of Mitchell, head of GM design, after Mitchell had returned from Europe. One of the cars that inspired Mitchell was the Alfa Disco Volante. Corvette has been borrowing Italian for a long time.

I'd take Kate Beckinsale myself

The first thing I thought when I saw a C5 for the first time, after having owned a 1985 Coupe from 1985 to 1990, was that they were going for a more European look. Not a bad thing, necessarily, and while C7 render and the Ferrari above look very similar, I again, would not consider that, alone, a bad thing.

Agreed.

Also a Corvette is nice but Kate Beckinsale is nicer

I remember clearly when the 599 appeared and the first thing that came to my mind was Pininfarina took inspiration from the C6 Corvette. I just looked up the 599 and it came out in late 06. No matter how you spin it the C6 is a gorgeous car and with the 599 it may be the first time the Italians copied the Corvette

It's not like it is a copy of the Ferrari. As someone said it is a front engine, rear drive sports car w/ a long hood, short decklid, and fastback. How different can that be...

But to me trying to build a more affordable, American-Ferrari is not any kind of bad thing anyway. Ferraris are desired and loved the world over.

Unless the C7 turns out to be a hideously ugly shooting-brake copy of the Ferrari FF I'd say copying Ferrari is a plus...

Hmmm, well, all women have 4 appendages, 2 ***s, a front XXXXy, and a rear hatch (trunk....), but that doesn't mean they look the same..... I'll take Kate over Roseanne any day.............

I thought Larry Shinoda had significant input into the Sting Ray design/concept also?

Unlike OJCrush08, I DO actually see similarities... I'm not sure how you could not. Cool think is, looking at them side by side, and money aside, i think the vette looks better!

I think the fact of the matter is that team Corvette has looked at Ferrari as their look and performance target model for quite a while. I cannot think of another auto manufacturer they have tried more to emulate in the last few generations so, in a way, it would have been very interesting if Fiat would have bought GM vs Chrysler. One can only imagine what might have happened to the Corvette if they had.

look at the front bumper cover on the jalopnik C7, see the two triangular points on each side at the bottom, then the single center point of the splitter below it, pure lamborgini.
