I have a 69 427 Tri Power Vette, as in 427 BIG BLOCK!

Tell GM to not apply the big block name to some candy a** engine.

There, I said it!

I'm sure a good number of people on this board would rather see a Turbo-Hydramatic 500.

Because drag racers.

No, Turbo-Hyramatic 800 because because if 500 is enough, 800 has to be better

As you know the now copyrighted term “Turbo–Jet” applied to a line of “original big blocks 396, 427, 454" from which the 427 number became legendary. (the stretched 402 kept the 396 label)

Because the original high-performance 396 available in 1965 was a 425 hp motor in the Corvette, (same motor in other models was rated at 375) when this same basic motor came out in 66 as a 427, for the first few months it was rated at 450HP until the brass de-rated it to 425 without any changes to the motor.

Consequently, those few 427 - 450 HP Turbo Jet (original) decals that appeared on the 66 L72 motor air cleaner, became very sought after.

I do not believe that GM has forever buried the number "427' but instead plans to resurrect it

There is no way GM would abandon the 427 moniker. It may be the end of the LS7 but not of that level of performance.

One thing we can be sure of in this litigious playground we live in is the name "Turbo-Jet" will be used only if there is an actual turbocharger on the car.

I know , someone is going to say that there is no "jet".

WTF? If the C7 isn't going to be jet powered, I'm not buying one.

My '65 BB convertible has the TurboJet badges on the fenders and the air cleaner cover. Nothing turbo or jet about it, of course. Just marketing.

Looks like GM also is pulling the "Turbo-Fire" name from the dusty shelves!

I would bet Turbo Jet would be the ZR1.

Default Best response ............

This was the best comment in response to the article. "I am not a lawyer either. I applied to law school and they did a background check and disqualified me because my parents were married. Apparently only basta*ds can be lawyers." Ya gotta love it !
