The reply was for Shawn.

But, your suggestion is awful with all due respect.

Your point about the other cars says it all. Look at the cost of those cars. Want to kill the Vette? Make it into it's own brand and charge more. That is a sure way to kill it.

One good thing. The idea is so bad it will never happen.

What I am saying is that a lot of guys comment here (included you) and don't know what they are talking about.
Your common sense is clearly being taxed here in this thread, so I'll ask two simple questions. 1. What do you consider exotic materials used in cars(not one off large boats as you compared to. I mean, I understand they are both transportation, but when I say a big cat could kill an antelope, I don't think any sober person believes I'm referring to a 40lb overweight housecat)? and 2. What "exotic" materials are used in any production Kia since you seem to be in the know.

Oh and no, no one was following the logic that the 458 was a one off, as you seem to be implying based on what he said that they are interchangeable, which everyone knows they are not. Ya know, the whole "square is a rectangle but a rectangle isn't a square" sorta deal?

Let's try and contribute something of value shall we?

Personally, I'm at the point where I truly hope Cadillac does it. I would like to have an American built, high performance two seat touring car that the general public doesn't perceive as such. I take 10 day driving vacations on average 4 weeks a year. It has reached the point where I can not make a single x country trip where in some jack *** in a car or pick up doesn't get stupid along side me on the highway. It is extremely unnerving to my wife and places us and the other vehicles in close proximity in danger. I did not to have this issue until both Chevy and Dodge started pushing the envelope with some of their advertising.

What is an "exotic" material? is Magnesium an "exotic" material?

http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=20884802

"We will also discuss the research activities and application of magnesium alloys and key technologies including the successful development of magnesium seat frame described and discussed in terms of vehicle performance and casting qualities introduced in vehicles developed by the Hyundai and Kia motors corporation"

And that article is from 2008.........Hyundai and KIA are using magnesium for many other components in their cars also.

Thanks JoesC5, good finding.
As for me, the "exotic materials" I use are ready to buy off the shelf locally or on the Internet. I guess, my shoes are exotic, made in China.......an exotic land.

I see a yellow Corvette in your avatar. Do you think if you had chosen a conservative dark color you would still be the subject of so much ill-advised highway appreciation?

If I may respond, yes! The tools seem to crave "showing" the Corvette driver a thing or two. I get chopped, tailgated, or brake checked almost daily, and it is aggravating as hell.

Yup. And it seems to have gotten worse over the years. It really got bad after the Super Bowl ad this past year and again after the intro of the 427 vert.

Nah ............... The '07 was black, the '09 Cyber Gray. W/o fail, ever time I went to Chicago to visit family I'd get hassled somewhere along the way. Usually between Little Rock and West Memphis, the SE part of MO or, the southern part of IL. It sure takes the enjoyment out of a trip.

That kind of roadgoing horseplay has only happened to me a couple of times in almost a dozen years, and even they weren't insistent or dangerous. I've had folks tag along at extralegal speed but always at a respectful distance.

I've had navy blue and now black, hence my question. Maybe it's just that part of the country? Maybe I just got lucky when I roadtripped through those parts.

In fact, I've noticed a different Corvette Effect, the Friendly Yield. When enjoying a twisty back road and encountering slower traffic, drivers yield promptly and give a friendly wave to the Corvette. (No, it's not just one finger.) Any other car I've been in, slower traffic is slow to recognize and even slower to accept that they might be going more slowly than is safe and reasonable. Has anyone else noticed this?

I just had one that I called in a 911 on. As I approached an on-ramp, a tool shot up behind me as I had to slow for traffic. He barely missed me as he swerved left to pass me, but he would have had a head-on with oncoming traffic. Locked all up, he tucked behind me on my bumper, on the horn and giving me the bird.

As I could, I accelerated and entered the ramp and he is sitting on my bumper. Then I see him move right to pass on my right on a one lane ramp. WTF? I moved left and let the tool have his way, caught his plate number, then dialed 911.

As we entered the main road, he was chopping lanes, so it wasn't just me as I first thought. I don't know if he was just in a hurry, drunk at 1:45PM, flying high, or what. However he was a menace.

Now back on topic.
