Corvette LT1 ala Cadillac V-8-6-4 .. BIG BIG MISTAKE!

Yeah. Direct injection, 7 speeds, and cylinder shut down... only 26 or better mpg lol. GM low balled everything it seems.
And I feel this thread should be locked because it has nothing to do with the c7, that Cadillac system isn't what GM uses, hence, won't be on the c7. Heck, this might be the start of an all new design for GM even.

Well I am saying that the C7 is going to be a big hit.....I dont think AFM will be a problem
I am getting a 7 speed so it prob wont have AFM anyway.......
My 2012 Super Bee SRT8 has AFM and you hear a slight drone when it kicks in, despite that it switches flawlessly...no worries

Don't know...
As I've stated before (and hopefully not overstating it), my borther-in-law sold his top-of-the-line 2012 Camaro after about one year of ownership. The reason was AFM. Didn't like cruising on 4 cyclinders and still getting gas mileage of an 8-cylinder. Didn't like the lag in kicking in all the cylinders. Liked everything else. That was the reason he sold it.
I'm only here because this is supposedly a completely new engine design and will wait and see what people actually say about it next year instead of forming my opinion completely now.

I'm quite curious to see what kind of MPG can be achieved in a light, aerodynamic vehicle, such as the Corvette, using the AFM technology. I think it'll produce nice results and help GM keep large displacement power plants in their vehicles.

The op really just compared 1981 cadillac to 2014 corvette.....and feels its a valid point.
Thats like saying the us military tried lasers in the 1960's and wasted millions because it never worked....so by god it must fail now! Crazy....lasers are 3.99 now from the dollar store...

I dont think its all that bad.....I have it on my 07 chevy crew cab with the 6.0 and it is totally seamless. The part that sucks is its just one more thing in the way for guys who want to tune their cars but obviously there are ways around that. This isnt something that will kill the corvette. I would venture to say most of us wouldnt even notice it being there at all if we werent told it was on the car. Stop the doom and gloom. There is no doubt in my mind that this car will be bad a$$!!!!

A buddy of mine had a Cadillac Eldorado with the 8-6-4 engine in the early 90s. He'd bought it used, commuted in it daily, and wasn't shy about leadfooting it on the onramp. It worked great. Very cool. The change was subtle, only noticeable if you listened carefully to the engine (which was quiet at all speeds as a classic Cadillac should be).
I'm sure the engine deserves its reputation for poor reliability and technical problems, but some of them really did work.
The modern AFM technology won't deter me from buying a C7. (The rest of the package might not sell me, but I won't know that for sure until January.)

I dunno how that guy noticed it in the camaro. My sister had a Daytona charger(which has noticeably louder mufflers then regular rt's if you put them side by side) and the few times I've been in it, she pointed the 8 to 4 switch out to me, as I only caught it once out of probably a dozen times. I alsotest drove a grand prix gxp(ls4 5.3, motor that basically started afm for GM) and I could hardly ever tell. Window's down with wind noise or radio up, it was unperceiveable.

there were also a lot more horses and bayonets back then!
no, really...give me a good, solid, educated argument on why this is a bad idea from an ENGINEERING perspective. not the perspective of the apparently ignorant "Corvette buying public". So far, just one negative opinion in this thread, 1BADLS3, has any hint of technical intelligence. His complaint, I would believe would be solved in a new design...and as he stated a tune will disable it. perhaps even GM would give you the option to disable if you wanted as well.
for people that actually drive and commute with their car, this could be a great feature

You can't be f**king serious.

Poor BSFC at part throttle is something you put up with, not something you want. If the system works reliably, I see no reason why the "Corvette buying public" won't like it.
