There were a couple of good articles floating around about the weight reduction program on the 2013 Cadillac ATS that explained how the engineers reduced weight with their BMW 3 series "killer". It was pretty impressive stuff for GM and with that work behind them I believe they will be more successful with the C7 because the price point is higher.
With that said I predict that this car will be 2,999 lbs. or less !

Thanks to broad use of carbon fiber, magnesium and aluminum, the 'Vette will weigh about 10 percent less. Making approximately 450 horsepower, the 6.2-liter V-8 engine is outfitted with direct-injection technology and variable valve timing for more efficient combustion, but four cylinders shut down during relaxed highway cruising, helping the car to return excellent fuel economy.

2900 lbs based on 10% less than the 13 base coupe.

So, you believe that Ronald Ahrens is employed by GM, writing their press releases. Or could he just be winging it like everyone else, based on GM's press releases that have only said the C7 will be lighter then the C6? No where has GM said in a press release that the C7 will be 10% lighter then the C6.

If they have, please link it...........

Who is to say that Ronald Ahrens knows more then Danny Chow, also a writer, who said the C7 will weigh 1500 Kg (that's 3306 pounds, folks).

What do you think? Make it official and post it.
I can agree with that. Since the C5Z is 3100 lbs., It would be sweet if the weight came in at 2800-2900 lbs. The pwr to ratio would be a monster giving the C7 a real advantage with future powerplants.

I am quietly holding out hope it hits right at 3000 lbs or under. But I figure it'll come in around 3150 in reality, still good but not earth shattering like 2999 lbs would be... Hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised.

The HP numbers are lower than expected , So I'm going to say it better be light, somewhere in the neighborhood of 3050

Man talk about slap in the face some guys thought close to 3k. Est now have it at what Scissors posted. GM had a good play in words saying teh frame was 99lbs lighter but didn't say they added weight in other areas.

So ooooo, at 3350 lbs , even with 450/450, a stock C5 Z shouldn't have a problem staying with the C7. Frankly, I'm surprised its as heavy as it is!

They had to meet new government regulations which added weight from what they said. Of course the extra mechanics on the engine added a litle weight too
