C7 with Less Power than the Camaro
I know the two cars a very different but I think it's interesting, in a way, that GM is allowing the Camaro to have more power than the C7. Normally one Vette model has more power than the Camaro. Anyone remember the last time the Camaro came with more power than a Vette that was produced in the same year? Or is this a first? With this, I think GM will definitely release a C7 ZO6/ZR1 in 2015.
There was a lot of discussion about this during the C5 years regarding the SS's. The SS's really didn't offer any more performance than the Z28's. It was stated many times that GM didn't want the Camaro to have the bigger power plant.
With the 427 going in the Camaro's in 2014 that will be a good car to have, but the new Camaro never did grow on me.

It's a good sign that GM wants to make Camaro fans happy and cover the pony car market (and make more sales), not just maintain some mistaken sense of horsepower pecking order across models. Chevrolet history is rich with high-performance Chevrolets having more ponies than base Corvettes.

The current Camaro ZL1 has more power than both the standard C6 and Z06.

The camaro is getting LT1 not the LS7 so it's a non issue for concern

We know that for the 2014 model year, the high performance LS engines are going bye-bye for Corvette and in their place will be the new Generation 5 LT1 V8s. But that doesn’t mean GM is going to stop building the LS7 and LS9 engines for other applications. Thanks to some sleuthing at Camaro5.com, it does look like Chevrolet is planning on using the 505 hp LS7 engine for the 2014 Camaro.
The LS7 engine is now showing up on the GM dealer VIN cards for the 2014 model year as engine code “E” in the Camaro’s 2014 VIN (click to enlarge):

The current Shelby GT500 has more HP than my ZR1, yet I would have zero difficulty handing one its *** on a platter. HP is just a number, you have to focus on the overall package.

I would take a base c6 over any camero or mustang. While not the gt500 or the zl1 I have driven both cars. The weight of either is just way too much for me to have fun...it would not matter how much hp they have.

As has been pointed out ad nauseum, the Corvette's allure is it's all-around performance as a sports car in a relatively inexpensive, yet powerful, reliable, easy to maintain and sexy package. In that regard it has no close competition.

Chevrolet has always positioned the Corvette as the best sports car for the money. Some models have achieved this
better than others, but overall, IMO that goal has been realized. Hopefully the C7 will continue in this vein...

Camaro did very well for new GM. We have to be thankful to Camaro's sales to save GM's @ss. My nearby dealer tells me, to this day, they can't keep a ZL1 on the lot. You get a lot of car for $56,000 ZL1.
I wonder how much the 427 is gonna cost?
But Camaro, is not for this crowd here, I'm just glad is paying GM's bills. :-)

I have tried to research this, and so far all info I have found has the top powered Corvette each year at least a few ponies more than the Camaro, Even when they put a few of the LT4s in the Camaro and Firebird. They de-tuned them from 345hp to 330hp.

This argument can be argued both ways btw.

Look, kids, there will be one model year where the new Corvette has a lower horsepower number than the knife-edge versions of the old Camaro. Then next year there will be higher-spec Corvettes and it'll be Camaro that's new and without its knife-edge versions.
This is not some radical policy shift, the Camaro isn't taking over the performance flagship role, and the world isn't coming to an end.
