Default Paint - orange peel

Do we have any reason to believe there will be less orange peel in the C7 than say a 2006 or so ??

With the newer say more contemporary design I see the orange peel as being a bigger negative than it was on a C5 or C6.

I have not looked closely at any newer GM paint finishes in a few years.

I think the C7 is going to be, as Tony the Tiger says GREAT.

Part of the Bowling Green plant remodel is an improved (or perhaps completely new) paint area.

There will be orange peel on C7, just like there is orange peel on every modern mass-production automobile.

I looked at a black ZR1 and the peel was ridiculous for a car that cost what it does. Shameful is the word.

That is PRECISELY why I bought a 1LT coupe instead of a ZR1

To what other non-metallic black cars did you compare it?

To what other non-metallic black $120K 640hp 3300lb cars based on $50K 430hp 3200lb cars did you compare it?

Haha.....it really drove me nuts that a few years back the plastic panels on the Saturn were much smoother and better finished than the Corvette in that era.

Default Technology is on our side!

There is only so much GM can do to the Corvette and keep the price reachable. With improved technology in every possible area in manufacturing the C7 will definitely be improved in most areas compared to the C6. I am confident that the paint will be improved on the C7. Today I washed my Corvette and took some pictures of it in the sun and I was very pleased with the condition of the Monterey Red metallic paint.
WE should see all aspects of the C7 improved due to the benefits of technology improving/doubling every 120 days. We read about the nano steel, carbon fiber, magnesium, composites, etc improvements constantly here on CF. It only makes sense to see the paint improve too. I just looked at the new ATS recently and I was impressed with the paint job on that new Cadillac. Be positive, it will be good.
Cheers,
Fuze

My C6 (Velocity Yellow) has little to NO orange peel in it's paint.
I would gladly accept paint quality on a C7 the same/similar to what I have on my C6.

I don't know if this is true, but I once read that Hyundai had very smooth paint attributed to their factory having one of the most modern (newest) paint equipment/process. My brother has a Hyundai, and sure enough, the paint is great. If the expansion at BG includes updating or replacing the paint tech. then we most certainly will see some improvement as the current paint process at BG is not very new.

I don't get why it bothers people. I know I have to be in the minority here, but the orange peel never really bothered me.

Paint is funny. My 2002 Z06 has very little orange peel compared to other local Z06s I've seen. It's obvious that there is some quality variation going on (at least back in 2002 model year) due to quality control.

In general, it seems the newer cars (regardless of brand) have pretty decent paint jobs these days - expect some Fords still look to have horrible paint/orange peel. I think the manufactures know paint quality and body panel fitment is a huge deal to most buyers.

The amount of orange peel on all the vettes I've seen is acceptable to me. I'd rather they spend the $ elsewhere.

That said, I can say I was quite suprised the first time I looked at the underside of my c6 rocker panels. There are some very obvious runs, more like large drips of paint, dried on.

It doesn't really bother you until you start looking at cars that don't have any. Then you end up wanting the same. But the only cars I ever see that have nice perfect paint are either very expensive, or somebody has worked for days and days to achieve that look. I don't have that much time.

im with you. Never bothered me either. But if it does i know a guy who will wet sand the whole car, rub it out, polish it then seal it for 500$. I've seen the results and nothing short of brilliant. But im sure any top auto body will do it also.
