Very simple. Don't over think it
The first big EVOLUTION in design...
The SECOND biggest evolution...
And obviously GM marketing sees the C7 as a huge evolution as well...

I have a REAL String Ray in my garage and have owned a REAL Stingray in the past. Mr. C7, you are no Stingray.

The word Sting Ray first appeared on the '63 and stay as two words for the 5 years the mid-years were in production. The 1968 Corvette did not have the script on it. It was back in '69 and gone for good in '77. So I don't consider the word Stingray a Corvette heritage. It was a part of Corvette history, but to say this is a tribute to the heritage is a stretch. It is nothing more then a marketing ploy. And I will say it again, that the new C7 is a refined/redesign of the 2009 Corvette Concept car. It has the little Stingray on its side like the new C7.

I was at Barrett Jackson yesterday and within five feet of the C7. If you have not seen the car in person, you don't know what you are talking about. It is gorgeous - both inside and out. The rear end rocks, you have to see it as a whole design with the rest of the car. Until seeing the Stingray emblem in person, I too, thought it was dumb. It is highly polished and looks smaller on the car than the pictures make it appear. The high polish looks great against the black of the fender vent it is near. I now like it. The only thing I would change is the steering wheel. I believe Caravaggio will create something of note for the steering wheel. I just can't believe they have upgraded so much in the base car - I can't wait to see the Z06 & ZR1!

Luckily; the fish emblem is not all that big; and you can' make out any detail from 4-5 feet distance. And that aspect - I think - further demonstrates that it is purely a sales tactic (and not a heritage tribute).
