C7 M7 and CAGS

Hopefully AFM and the new 7 speed have removed any need for CAGS.

Zero mention of CAGS in anything released or discussed on the C7. Strongly suspect the ECO mode and the 4-cylinder mode clear the gas-guzzler hurdle without CAGS. Bet it ain't got it.

The new .42 7th gear doesn't help the city gas mileage whereas the 1X4 CAGS does. I also doubt if the AFM will have the car running on 4 cylinders when accelerating in first gear from a traffic light in traffic in the city.

I've read (somewhere) that the CAGS would be overridden in "TRACK" mode and am wondering if this is true?!
The other (MAJOR) concern I have is if CAGS is defeated by other means (fuse or plug replacement, etc.) by the owner that the warrantee would be invalidated. True?

Easy fix. Drive moderately and it will never engage. After 3 Corvettes with it, I would say it would shift 1-4 maybe 1 out of 200 times and then I would usually just put it in 3rd. No big deal.

CAGS works while accelerating; AFM should work while at a steady speed.
Leave from a stop, CAGS puts you into fourth, reach the speed limit, AFM puts you into four-cylinder mode, where you stay until you come to a stop again. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Now if they added stop/start, they could save you the fuel wasted waiting for that next green light.

With C6 they got the CAGS algorithm refined to the point that it's seldom a bother, and easy for the driver to learn slight behavior modification to avoid it if he chooses. I expect the same for C7. I also expect the same resistor fix will be available for those who prefer to kill it. After all, why would GM fix what ain't broken?

Are there really corvette owners who shift out of first gear before 25 mph?

Yes the C7 does have Cags. As for AFM, the 4 cylinder mode won't occur in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. It's only enabled in 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th, and only if you turn the mode switch to the left from its default position to the ECO setting. It won't work in the Tour, Sport, or Track setting.

It seems that AFM does in fact activate in the default touring mode.
It just operates to a much higher level in the ECO mode.
Chevy describes the C7 default (normal) touring mode as having adaptable power with V8 during acceleration and V4 AFM during coasting.
From the Corvette Museum C7 specifications listing:
Active Fuel Management: in normal mode, the LT1 engine uses V-8 power during acceleration and V-4 power when coasting; in Eco mode the engine remains in V-4 mode to improve fuel economy until aggressive acceleration is needed.

To be clear, powertrain engineers said they could eliminate cags if certain govt regulations changed governing required shift point speeds. They said the regs were written in the 70's when trannies were 4spds...now with 6 and 7 spds...they have to have cags to conform to these ridiculous regs.
They wholeheartidly said, "if we could take it out and legally sell the car, we would."
