I dont see it happening as well, at least until they present something more, as in HP and TQ, better trans ( no slushboxes ) Bigger tires / fenders....maybe the 2015?
I think many C6 owners will move into a C7 once there is really something to shout about.....
And before im called a hater, I saw the Detroit car at the BJ auction and would really like to buy one, but not sure I can justify the $$$ for what has been offered.
Time will tell.

1997 production 9752 cars( production was from Feb-July)
1998 production 31084 cars
1999 production 33270 cars
2000 production 33682 cars
2001 production 35627 cars
2002 production 35767 cars
2003 production 35469 cars
2004 production 34064 cars
Corvette history shows they can sell that many. The car has been getting a lot of press. GM has hired 150 extra employees to run two shifts to build C7's. They must have a 30,000 unit target. I see this car selling just like the C5 did. People will just have to own it.

They sold 40,561 C6 vettes in 2007 which is the best sales year for Corvettes since 1984 when they sold 51,547. They also sold over 30k Corvettes each year from 1998-2008 so I would think that they need that many for the vette to stay sustainable and financially relevant to continue the brand for GM.
C6 sales figures by year:
2005=37,372
2006=34,021
2007=40,561
2008=35,310
2009=26,956
2010=22,194
2011=13,596
2012=11,647

We bought a new 2009 off the lot at the end of June 2009, just a few weeks before the 2010 start, and we had an awful lot of cars to pick from. And they were giving them away back then, we paid $48.5 for a car that stickered at $62.5 and probably could have done even better. Not likely GM was making money at those prices.

GM (Ackerson) has set the bar at 30,000 units for the C7. What does that mean?
In 2012 Porsche set sales records. Porsche sold 25,475 911s. They sold 9,253 Boxsters.
At this point the Boxster is comparable to the C7. Porsche is just going crazy with 911 prices so we can't compare the 911 to the C7. At least we hope not.
I just don't see how GM can reach 30,000 Corvettes a year. Right now they're around 12,000 which is much better than what the Boxster is doing. Keep in mind though that the Boxster had some bad months prior to the new model arriving.
Just be glad you're not in charge of marketing the Corvette. Or, maybe Ackerson will retire prior to the end of the year.

The economy is just not back where it needs to be to do 30k IMO. I think they would be happy to hit 20 but it will probably be more like 15.
With all the anti-first-year folks out there and those waiting for higher HP and/or Z version, I would guess at 15 or less the first year.

Not to nit-pick, they may have made 26,956 Corvettes for 2009 (model year or calander year?), I don't think they sold nearly that many. There were still a lot of unsold 2009's after the 2010's came out.

You know they sold less than half of that last year, right?

Different situation this time around.
I think the first batch of C7's will go like hot cakes since the weather will still be decent.. but as soon as the cold months hit there will be many sitting around on dealer lots and it wont change through 2014. People are still watching how they spend their money and a $50-60K toy isnt as high on the list as it was 5 years ago.

Everything in Detroit functions by contract. Parts, number of workers, shifts etc. It's all about keeping the production line moving and people getting their money. I'm not sure that it is 30,000, but there is definitely a number Corvette team had to make a case for with the bean counters and the factory is set up to deliver that volume. That volume hurdle is high for any vehicle line at GM.
Good news for the customer because it assures that prices will come down a good bit after the 1st year. Always happens. Another reason not to buy 1st year.

Ummm, has anyone noticed the government can't pay its bills? I'm not an economist but it would make sense that we as a country are headed in the wrong direction and that will translate to luxury purchases taking a huge hit! Sure it won't prevent some but many will be cautious with their spending this year IMO!
