Default The salesman said he talked to a guy at GM......

who works in the performance engine development area.....

The guy he talked to said that with some mods to the current programming, they were able to get 525hp out of the LT1 pretty easily.

Out of curiosity from those that know more than I, how much HP does a tune only usually get from a car? Say the base LS3 430HP?

Overall I was amazed at how very little the salespeople knew about the C7. Crazy ignorant about it on the most part.

So, the salesman talked to a guy at GM? Sorry, but I have trouble believing a salesman if he tells me the sky is blue.

The salespeople are usually selling trucks.

I think the guy who works in the performance engine development area delivers the mail.

Nothing beats believing what car salesman says. Anything is possible but is it likely? That would be another matter. Unless GM underrated the LT1 and 450 was measured at the rear wheels, this is unlikely. Assuming the engine management software even allows any adjustments that would result in decrease of gas mileage.

I don't disagree on the most part. That is why I wondered what a tune can do on past GM engines. What percentage increase in HP is available if you don't have to worry about reliability?

You cannot predict anything until GM releases information on the software or someone tries first hand. Different software and fuel management than on current cars.

Salesmen never lie. Mine told me that my Z06 would do 300 MPH around Talladega if I installed a full width rear spoiler to increase the downforce.

^ 11.278% if the barometric pressure is below 30, humidity is between 50-70%, running premium fuel.

You can bet that GM will "find" more than 450HP in this motor. But, it won't be during the first few MYs.

Even he pulled that out of his *** their might be truth to that. I remember reading a piece about the LS7 and the engineers got it to rev up to 8k and make about 550ish hp. But anyways total BS from the sales guy.

What's the upper limit of the automatic transmission? That might be the limiting factor?

What I heard, it was the parts delivery boy that also gets coffee for the salesman and he told the salesman that he knew a guy in the mail room that heard from a office worker that got his information from the janitor that he saw something written on a piece of scrap paper in the wastebasket he was emptying that the LT1 might be able to produce that HP.

Not that is a lot more believable then having a salesman tell me he talked to an engineer.

At a minimum. I don't have the full width spoiler on my Z06 and I was passed by a base 2005 C6 LS2 that had a full width spoiler. I know he was doing at least 280 as I was doing 275(but I was looking like Kyle Busch exiting the turns). Took all my mighty skills to keep the car off the wall.

Salesman told a friend of mine, when he purchased a new Grand Sport(A6), that all LS3 engines were run on the engine dyno and only the engines with the most horsepower were shipped to Bowling Green to be installed in the Grand Sport. The lower horsepower engines were used in the base C6.

I kid you not.
