There are lots of people here on this Forum that will pay over MSRP. But, I wont be one of them. I dont have to be the first person in my area to have a C7 ...

They learned generations ago that they can get away with it -- until the inventory starts building up on the back lot. Nothing new and never gonna change as long as "gotta be firsters" are willing to outspend patient buyers.

I met a man this week who told me that GM was cracking down on gauging dealers. Said they can not charge more then MSRP. I asked him if he knew what the "S" stood for? He did not...manufactures, by law, can not dictate to a car dealer what he charges for a car. I worked in gasoline. They would have thrown me in jail if I told one of my race fuel distributors what to charge..

I know some very smart, successful and intellectual people that have paid over sticker for cars. To call someone being in a position of having the luxury of paying more for what they want on the spot (without delays) idiots is not too smart.

Well, I think if they were really well informed - with only minimal effort to become so - they would realize that in most cases they don't have to pay over MSRP, they just need to look else where to purchase. Perhaps at that level they just can't be bothered...............

Can definitely see both sides to this (not that those who buy over sticker are stupid; that's just supply and demand at work), and I won't be surprised if there are even $20k markups.
On the one hand, we have the first new Corvette built without Old GM's push production mentality, one that seems to confirm a new committment to quality, one that can now fully implement Bob Lutz's goal of offering a product that doesn't require incentives and rebates to move. It's also possible that GM have looked at the economic climate and constrained (relative to previous ones) accordingly. This suggests that it might take a long time to reach the level of excess supply of previous generations, if ever.
If, on the other hand, what Bill says is true, that GM is going to be cracking down on gougers, then we may see new cars offered at MSRP. But it does nothing to stop dealers from, at the very least, offering used cars over MSRP.
