Default Somethings not right in this interior pic -

I was looking for something else and found this, so I'll go with it. Look close and found what is out of place - makes no sense why there in the car.

In the picture it appears the car is a 7 speed stick, why then does it have paddles? This was the reveal car and there was a close up of the gear shift **** above this pic - for sure it was a 7 speed - doesn't look like an auto.

Ok know tell me that this was already posted and I missed it - don't throw rocks!

They turn rev matching on and off.

Turns rev matching on and off. Not the ideal solution IMO.

GM said it was to allow you to change it quickly while driving but I agree... it should be just a **** somewhere on changeable in the setup somewhere.

Actually it makes perfect sense when you think about how the rev-matching can be easily turned on and off while you are driving it. Track rats are supposed to love this capability.

Maybe... I spend a lot of time at the track and I will either always have it on or always off (likely always off). I wouldn't be messing with it in real time on the track. Don't get me wrong, I love the car but this item is a bit gimmicky to me.

Obviously, I haven't a clue about using it personally but to hear Tadge talk about it, this rev-matching is a very fun and effective tool at the track. I'm sure some will want it on all the time and some will want it off and some with want it on/off quickly. Now you will have that option.

Yeah, I understand the theory but it doesn't make sense to me. When I'm at the track, I'm not "playing" with options as I drive. I'm completely focused on driving and laptime... any serious driver would change set up in the paddock. That's why it's gimmicky to me.

I also think most track rats, so to speak, would not use the feature as they have already mastered heel-toe shifting. I think this feature is mainly for those who haven't. When you get very good at heel-toe, you don't even consciously notice you are doing it. I can make 15 laps and not consciously realize I have actually done it once but I have every single downshift. On the street, it might be a fun and easy way to achieve the same thing as I don't heel-toe around town.

At the end of the day, it isn't a big deal but having a simple switch would make more sense to me.

Rev matching is a neat feature. Using paddles as if they are shift paddles is just plain goofy. The Japanese are kicking themselves for not thinking of it first (paddles on a manual car).

Aren't these paddles in the same location as the automatic's shift paddles?
They're probably the same paddles.

They are the same paddles. GM probably figured it would just be easier( & maybe cheaper) to just put the paddles in all the vettes, & use them for manually shifting the A6 & turning on or off the automatic rev matching feature in the manual tranny.

That's what I was going to post as well.
Things like this do help keep costs down of course, it all contributes to them being able to sell what some might call a $65k car for only $53k - $55k (hopefully).

It shouldn't be a paddle on the wheel. A nice on/off switch would work just fine or have it part of the select mode switch.

Could one of you ask GM if one paddles controllers rev match for up shifts and the other down shifts? I think revmatch is one of the keys to letting DOD work with the M7. If the car was in V4 it will not shift the same as in V8. I was out spoken that they will not get DOD to work with the M7 but this is one of the key features to let you have a V4 and V8. The track advantage is another story, but I think DODs was the real reason to add rev match.

Personally I think this is an ideal place for it from a track perspective. Easy to have it on coming into a hard braking zone and easy to turn it off coming onto long straights for those who don't want it to rev match on up shifts.

I think I may agree that this is a poor location. What happens if you hit the paddles by accident, say with a thumb while in the middle of a critical simultaneous steering and shifting action?
