Did You Know That B/G Is Installing An Engine Assembly Line??
For a build it yourself option? Instead of going to Detroit to do this it will be all done in house now at B/G This is one of the reasons why its taking so long for B/G to re tool. It appears the engine line will occupy the space of the old Cadillac XLR assembly area.

I believe that most of the old XLR space is now used to house the C7's frame assembly. Still possible that there is room for an engine assembly area.
I doubt that the reason for assembling engines in Bowling Green is to have only a "build it yourself" option, but to facilitate a higher horsepower engine option. Wouldn't surprise me to see long blocks come in and then Bowling Green adding a supercharger in house to the long block.

Cool! That will hopefully make it more affordable to do the engine assembly option, at least in terms of travel costs and separate trips, if not the cost of the option itself!

So if I understand this correctly, the Performance Engine center that is moving to Bowling Green was originally responsible for the Z06, ZR1 and the dry sump LS3 in the GS models.
Now that there is just the one engine available will they build the LT1 that is for the Z51 option in Bowling Green and the other LT1 in NY? I wonder if the build your own engine option will be offered for the LT1/Z51 engine?

Dry sumps or any other high performance engines currently built in Wixom. What I find curious is that the LT1 wet sump is being slated for the Tonawanda plant (a very long time chevy engine plant). The entire wet sump LS series engines have been built in St. Catherines, ON since MY1997. Why is the wet sump standard vette engine moving to Tonawanda after all those years?? Due variable valve/DOD technology??

There is a thread in the C6 Z06 section referencing a very recent GM press announcement that the LS7 will
be in the new Camaro Z28, and the LS7 engine will continue to be assembled at the PBC in Wixom, MI.
see post #38 for the link to the press release...

Expect all 2014 Corvette engines to be built in Tonawonda, wet sump and dry sump. The only reason those handbuilt Wixom LS3's were possible was because Corvette production numbers had dropped so low the last few years. With all the frenzy for 2014's, many with Z51, many with 7 speeds, the big production numbers would preclude hand building.
If past history is any indicator, there may well be constraints on the Z51 option during the year if it approaches 50% of production (certification is done with base engine/gearing; that has to be the majority of production).
They won't be building engines in Bowling Green until the Performance Build Center moves there from Wixom next year to build LT4 engines for the hot 2015 Z06 replacement.
