It's already starting with an Al chassis, a CF hood/roof, and many composite components. That's most of the current Z06's weight savings. Adding bigger brakes/wheels/tires and dry sump while carving out much weight is just unrealistic.

1. AFM Delete
2. Go back to Auminum Torque Tube
3. Lighter headers
4. Fixed Roof
5. Make an LS7 version of the LT1:
5a. Increase displacement
5b. Tune for power at high RPM rather than FE
5c. All the other cool junk in the LS7 that lets it REV

Clearly I'm going for a normally aspirated engine here.
I'm thinking the following specs:

550 HP
3100-3200 lbs

Any thoughts/dreams/fantasies?

You nailed it! High revving, NA, fixed roof, 285/335 19s, Carbon Ceramic Brake option, new MSRC/PTM tuning, and at the very least a front splitter, if not a full aero suite. Oh, and some badging to make all the little people happy lording their Z06 badges over the lowly Stingray owners.

I don't think it pukes valves, so much as ingests them.

They already have the LS7...just dont buy badly tuned/modded junk and then drive it like a racecar when it was built for the street..just saying

Don't screw this up GM!!! The C6 427 Vert was a huge success and you only offered it the last year. Don't screw us again!! Give us the Vert Z06 version as soon as the hard top version comes.

My biggest fear with the C7 Z06 is that they try to go FI on the motor. Keep the LS7 but fix the valves and give it DI. FI will be a deal-killer for me.

I'm really worried that the C7 Z06 will be heavy. I can't believe the weight of the base C7 with ALuminum frame and Carbon fiber parts is approaching 3400lbs.

Where is the Z06 going to remove weight from at this point?

20% more rigid chassis while allowing for a targa panel.
Manual or optional DCT.
Widebody kit with accomodating wheels and brakes.
No LT motor with 427ci, completely forged bottom end and better flowing heads.
Getrag transmission with no overdrive as 6th gear.

What would you like in the C7 Z06 ?

How about an engine that keeps its valves in the heads.

One of the enginners at the Bash this weekend told me that before to long manual transmissions will be a thing of the past. Automatics are becoming better and better and more sophisticated. And I personally love a MT.

Not sure about the rest, but I'm pretty sure we'll get the targa, this time around. It is simply less expensive to produce one chassis that meets all required rigidity standards, which is I think the case here. Lack of a removable roof kept me away from a C6 Z06 for a long time.

Should have:
  • All-Wheel Drive
  • No more 1LZ, 2LZ, 3LZ. Make two cars - one with all options and one that is stripped-down racer
  • carbon fiber hood, roof, no BS opaque roofs

The Z06 doesn't need more power. It needs to make better use of the power it already has. Getting 500hp down to 2 rear wheels with a crap manual shifter means this car is only enjoyed by true experts. If it wants to compete with the big boys (GT-R, 911 GT3/Turbo, R8 V10, 458, Gallardo, etc) it either needs a SIGNIFICANT suspension re-working (not going to happen) or they need to let a dual-clutch transmission and AWD get that power to the ground.

My Nissan GT-R would absolutely smoke my '08 Z06 everywhere. It's also a much easier car to live with day-to-day, gets all that power down to the ground time-after-time 24/7/365 days of the year, and has much higher standards of fit-and-finish. The C7 will take care of a lot of my Z06 complaints, but if they want the C7 Z06 to really take on these cars, they have to get beyond the thinking that you can keep slapping wider and wider tires on the back end of the car and keep pushing the HP up to ridiculous numbers. This worked for the past two generations of Corvettes but it's a new world.

I'd love for the Z06 to lure me back to the world of Corvettes but this car is going to have to be effing phenomenal to get me out of my GT-R.

Just my .02
Real world pricing on a new GT-R please.

Ok, I get the AWD and getting the power to the ground.

I understand that a DCT shifts faster and more reliably than most humans. Please explain how it gets that "power to the ground" better than a manual transmission? How does it improve forward traction?
