Red painted caliper option for only $995

If you go back and read some of my posts that is what I said they would do. They look like heroes keeping the base msrp down but raised all the option prices.
Oh and if anyone thinks its ok to charge $995 to for a different paint color on the calipers and uses the excuse that you do not have to order them you are crazy. I would personally prefer to have the stock color and donate the $995 to St Judes but I understand how some people need to have their egos stroked by their cars even if they want GM to rip them off.

It is absolutely OK to charge $995 for painted calipers because it is your choice to take them up on it... and it has nothing to do with stroking egos and no one is getting ripped off.

You miss my point. Colored calipers do nothing to enhance the cars performance factor for one, second, if buying off the lot vs ordering, it limits ones choices if they are not wanted.

However, the dealer doesn't make much profit... there as a comparison here of dealer cost and MSRP on options and the dealer only makes a few bucks on options like painted calipers. My experience with car dealers (which is fairly significant as I do a lot of consulting for them) is that they order cars for inventory based on what they can sell quickly. They don't want a car in inventory that is oddly optioned or unappealing to the masses because it won't sell. If they put one in inventory with red calipers then they expect it will be a popular option.

My seven year old Corvette came with red calipers. Cool then, but now I want a more functional look.

So, it costs $595.00 to "upgrade" from gray calipers to red ones. Yet Cyber grey and Torch red are no cost options for the entire car!
It seems that GM is missing a major cost center potential here! The Torch Red body should be an extra cost option, just like the Crystal Red Metallic tint coat is. They could probably get at least the same $995 as they do for the CRM.

Agreed. To me, it is no different that being able to pick your body color or interior color... it is a style preference... and one that costs $995

As I have said earlier I just got tired of pulling the wheels, prepping and painting my previous cars. When I bought my '13 GS the red painted calipers had to be there or it was the deal breaker for me. The car I wanted had them. I couldn't pay the $595 fast enough.

And that is exactly what GM is counting on. Most people buying a Corvette can probably make more in 2 or 3 hours then they would save by not paying the $595 costs to have GM paint the calipers.

And the dealers love it because even though they won't give a dime more on trade value, they will increase their used sale price because of it.
