Okay, we know prices, but what about markups?

In this terrible economy, I think it would be a good sign for the C7 if most dealers were screwing people. But I do know when I bought my 2012, Coughlin Chevy (Rick Conti in Ohio) and Lewis Chevrolet (Canton, Tx - about 70 miles east of Dallas) were by far the best on prices. I bought mine from Lewis because it was much closer. Best car decision I ever made!
I'm sure others across America exist also, but those are the two I'd start with if I were wanting a C7 for less than MSRP.
And yes it is dumb to pay more when you already know you can buy for less.
So early on, it's still a decision between instant gratification, and waiting a few months to save hundreds, maybe thousands?

Some of you keep saying Forum Dealers are not going to have mark ups. I realize Criswell has stepped up to the plate and maybe one other. What about the Forum Dealers who will have huge allocations...where are they right now? Why aren't they responding to this Thread telling everyone they will not go over MSRP? I'll tell ya where they are....at the Boat Show drooling over the new Bassboat they will be buying this fall!
Remember this when supplies catch up with demand and they begin posting Threads everyday advertising "huge mark downs." Remember them.

Take it easy...You're going off the deep end with this stuff.
It's been a couple of days. Let the dealers and their reps catch their breath.
It'll be VERY CLEAR which forum dealers are going to work with the members at MSRP and which ones are going to want markups (if any). Until then, keep the pitch forks and fire sticks at home.

Great point Bill! The news several months ago was "I wouldn't have a Corvette with Camaro tail lights." Then, the frenzy hit!
Don't you all think many of these people are going to get caught up in this frenzy and rationlize to themseleves, "ah...$3k markup isn't so bad." Or, do you all think they will say to themselves, "Gawd I gotta have one of these but I am educated and will wait two years until the prices come down." Everyone lives in the "now," i.e.; "instant gratification."
Stand by for the mark ups AND Forum buyers who will fall into this trap! Those Forum Dealers will take advantage of this and have markups...personally I don't blame them! I'd do the same and get that new Bassboat I was drooling over!
Bill is a wise man. Listen to him!

Where are all the Forum members who laughed in January and said no one would buy the ugly C7.. Where are these members today? Then the wise sages who said the price would drop like a stone when the cars backed up on dealer lots..
I think they are all at Fantasy Land in Disney World.

No pitch forks and demons here...just a reality check! However, I am an AZ State University Sun Devil fan, my dog is named 'Sparky' (ASU mascot), my son graduates from ASU next week and he has an ASU personal license plate on his C6.
Maybe I am "the Devil." I am sure I am the Devil to those who don't want to buy into my advice and experience when it comes to purchasing a new generation Corvette. Ignoring this is not going to make it go away!

What I'm trying to say is, there's nothing to ignore or hide. It'll be obvious how the forum dealers are transacting on their C7 purchases with
If a forum dealer wants a long term rep and referral business from the membership, they'll stick with MSRP.
For those wanting a quick buck while they can, they'll try a different approach.
Funny story, in the mortgage business, all the gougers during the boom are now out of the game. Those who treated their clients fair and didn't overcharge are now making a killing from referrals and reputation. Sometimes planning ahead pays off....

The most I've ever paid for a new Vette is about 7 grand below sticker and the least about 10 grand below. To me a full sticker price purchase is a "grab your ankles" experience.

FWIW, sir, I think it will be a good while before a lot of C7s are sold for "7 grand below sticker."

Just wanted to drop in and mention that Stasek Chevrolet will not be selling the 2014 Stingray over MSRP as I've mentioned in other threads, plus we still have some allocation available for both coupes and convertibles. If there's anyone interested please PM me or contact me with the info below and I'll do my best to help you out.
Thanks!

All anyone needs to do is sit down make 6 or so phone calls and YOU will know what any dealer is willing to do and have a variety of offers. That is what I did, and no I am not sharing the findings.
I found large dealers going somewhat under MSRP, some requiring no deposit and some requiring up to $2,500. A couple would not offer a refund. At the time w/o knowing pricing and not seeing the car in person that did not work for me.
Most are willing to share their allocation #s and where you would be on their potential delivery time line. Only a handful are not...to which I say you want to be honest and I'm buying a $75K car....tell me when I can expect to get one. And one large dealer was here on the Forum bashing other dealers for wanting $1K and now wants $2.5K. What's up with that?
I put down 2 deposits and am considering a third and I informed each dealer of my plans. No one balked at the multiple deposit situation.
I think it will be interesting to see what Kerbeck does. As an example if Kerbeck does not require a deposit or a minimal deposit someone who wants $2,500 may find themselves out on a limb.
All deals are a point in time. Who knows what bonus money, incentives etc any dealer has at any one time. For those of us too impatient to wait that is the price we pay. Wait for a 15 and yea they may be dealing but that sticker won't be a $51,999, it will be more.
Last point to consider....say I go to NJ to Kerbeck and get this buggy back to Ohio. If I need service, remember it will have issues......will my local 5 Corvette sales a year dealer be able to help? I mean yea today with the C6 he has to service it but with the C7 can he say oh we're not a big enough dealer to be certified yet?
Bottom line for me is my trade will never be worth more then it is today, life is too short and we each need to make that decision.

Just spoke with Brent at Stasek Chevrolet and must say, I was super impressed!
Yes, Brent is selling at MSRP...no add ons anywhere! Yes, he got a huge allocation. Yes, he answered the phone on my first call. Yes, he seems very intelligent and fair! Yes, he is educated on how they will be delivered.
My advice to anyone who wants a C7 call Brent now! He is the real deal!!!! It would make sense to purchase one from him and then pay the $1000 to ship it to you!!!!! He has both coupes and convertibles available.

Allow me to clarify for you sir as this is nothing about "song and legend" or any extreme negotiating tactics.
I've purchased 5 new Corvettes from C4 thru C6. The discounts of 7 to 10 thousand dollars on those cars was not the product of negotiations of any kind and all 5 were clean deals with no trades to confuse the amount of discounting. These discounts were offered by the various retailers straight up. Could I have dickered around for a few more hundred or whatever, sure but I didn't see the need and was satisfied with what was offered.
Corvettes have had huge discounts/ rebates/incentives for decades. None of this is a surprise or anything out of the ordinary to anyone conversant with Corvette sales and pricing over the last 20 years.
The C7 will fall right in line with previous sales runs. Our morbid economy hampered by a malignant administration will depress Americans disposable income for luxury items even further and cause the discounts on C7s to occur sooner than some enthusiasts may expect.
