C7 Paint finishes - WOW!
After seeing the new C7 at the museum this weekend, one thing I noticed that's not evident in previous photos I had seen is the flawless paint on these cars.
Is this what we can expect on production cars, or were these pre-production car fihishes hand rubbed or sanded???

You can't judge the paint based on those pre-production show cars. They never went into the plant paint booth.

Shouldn't be but someone with more paint knowledge could prove me wrong. From what I understand it's the additional steps that add tot he price. One thing is for sure, tintcoats(or any non regular) are much more of a PITA to touch up easily and look good if you do get a scratch or chip.

This is the second post that I noticed a question about the tint coats. This is not a new process on for the C7. GM has been painting Corvette's as well as other GM models with the three step process for some time now.

The production cars will probly have some orange peel... Most all mass produced cars have some orange peel.
These prototypes / showcars were probly hand rubbed / buffed out to get a good finish on the paint.
But, maybe with the upgraded paint shop at the plant they may be able to produce higher quality paint finishes and maybe even offer MORE exotic colors.

This is standard stuff guys. All show sport cars are wet sanded to get the clear flat and all orange peel gone. I doubt the corvette will come like this during production time.
Only car under 200k that I know of that gets wet sanded is the viper.

That's too bad - the cars at the bash were beautiful. I thought they were too good to be true and figured if their paint really was this good, mention of it would have prevailed. Worldwde, every car manufacturer would be envious!

Had I known about those, I'd have been there looking. I did see where someone posted pics of them. Perhaps they noticed...I'm kinda A/R about paint and always notice that stuff. Most folks don't really care much. I'm sure the pre-production cars we saw were not the norm.

GM has a new process called FNC that eliminates the rust on the brake rotors. I don't understand why the highest price Chevrolet does not have this process on the rotors. The pictures of the red and silver car with the rusty rotors is unacceptable.
